Hi Guys,

I want to buy a Home Theatre (usage 60% movies + 40% music).
Please suggest me whether i should opt for Onkyo 3500 or should i go for entry level AVRs and speakers.
My budget:- 25 - 35K.
Location :- Noida(NCR).

Apart from onkyo3500, do audition denon1312xp (30K) n yamaha YHT296 (32k)

If you extend ur budget a little maybe to 40k, u will get a decent setup with denon1312 + speakers (wharfedale/boston acoustics, etc), which should be a better setup than HTIB

Onkyo HT-S3500 is the best bang for buck.............since you have a limited budget. However, if you can stretch it a bit then a seperate AVR + 5.1 satellite speaker system would give you much better sound.

Since your preference is music you have to go with Marantz, the sound signature of which works great with music. Pair up any entry level Marantz AVR + 5.1 speaker system and you are good to go.

Mohit,

Ideally, you should keep the systems separate (one for music and one for movies).

The HT-S3500 from Onkyo gets very very hot even after 30 minutes of use  That there is a sticker on top of the unit mentioning that is hardly a consolation. I have never seen a amp/receiver getting so hot. Am not sure if this is good in the long run. I even suspect that this is the reason why the room is not cooled even though I have a 2 tonne LG split (the same AC used to chill one to the bones when I was using an Onkyo receiver of earlier time frame).

The Pioneer VSX521 which has been suggested here has one major flaw - if it can be called a flaw - no OSD via HDMI. Otherwise excellent reviews :clapping: at amazon.com

I recently bought Onkyo 3500 and my movie watching experience is great on this. Not sure about the audio thing though!

even though you might have to stretch your budget a bit, Onkyo HT-S3500 would be your best bet in that price. The 3400 has now been discontinued and replaced with HT-S3500.

Additionally, please note that in HT-S3500, you cannot connect a powered sub-woofer in case you are not happy with the one that comes in the box.

Onkyo 3400 is available for 24990/- on ebay.

using the available discount coupon the effective price can be lowered.

I am not going for this as now I am not considering HTiB for my HT setup.

You can connect a powered subwoofer. Lots of them accept speaker level inputs. And if not, you could always use a voltage divider.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
