Onkyo/Denon/Marantz/HK? Please help me choose!

Hi, In one of my threads, I was seeking help in choosing a receiver from the US. I dont have that option any more and would by my receiver in India.

The maximum that I can spend is 40K. Please suggest from the following choices:

Harman Kardon -AVR 160/ AVR 255
Onkyo- TX-SR508
Denon- 1611
Marantz??? not sure about a model#, please suggest
Yamaha- RX-V567

I will be using Bose 301s and VCS 10 speakers. I have had some service issues with Onkyo lately, so I am a little sceptical in going for this brand again. Basically, the service center is not able to fix my old AVR.

Your help will be highly appreciated! also, should I go in for a 5.1 or a 7.1? Have many choices in 5.1 category.

Hi Maninder,

My suggestion would be onkyo....you can go for onkyo 608 (5 Star Rated product by whathifi) ....
Normal price is around 48K....but can be negotiated for 42K...
As far as service is concerned, i am not very sure about it since never faced any problem in my unit......
But i think service of onkyo should be better than that of Denon and Marantz coz of thier local presence in India....

No problems in Delhi mate you can sure go for Onkyo....

Thank you all! Also, is it practical to go in for a 7.1 at this time? I will switch over to independent amps and preprocessors in the next 2 to 3 years. So, should I invest extra on 7.1? The current room size is 14x12.

Denon 1911, clean crisp, no issues, nice clear- almost idiot proof interface.

have a BluRay, WD TV Live, iPOD (thru RCA connectors), TATA Sky.... All work well.

Shade under 40.

make sure you look at it before finalising.

No reason to ignore the Yamahas or Pioneers, but....

Guess some of the denon models have front USB port and also giving a free Iphone/ipod docking station... Please check ..

1911 has a front usb and an Ipod docking station is coming with it now as an offer. I am also considering the Denon 1911.
