Follow the steps below to know the current firmware (there are more than one firmwares - DSP firmware, Main firmware and Loader version (if present))

1. Turn ON the receiver
2. On the receiver press the DISPLAY button and keep it pressed
3. On the receiver press the ON/STANDBY button
You will see the firmware version

They look like this
D: 1.02/10419a38 --> DSP firmware
M: 1.07/10413AL --> Main firmware

Next
4. Release the DISPLAY button
5. On the receiver press the TONE + or - button to cycle between the DSP firmware, Main firmware and Loader versions (if present)

To get out of the firmware menu press STANDBY button

AFAIK there is no official firmware update for this model yet.

There is not any firmware available as of now for the HTS3400, kindly check with the international websites (www.onkyo-intl.com) .. as again if firmware is available (for DSP & Main Micon) you MIGHT not be able to update by urself since there is no USB or Ethernet port on 3400...

My suggestion : Dont blindly apply firmware for AVR if you are not facing any problem or the firmware update is of not really imp to you:cool:

Seems like an old firmware. You may contact the dealer if its under warranty.

These are not the only ways to upgrade firmware. There are other ways too.

Dude, I think its time to give up the pursuit, company must have dropped the idea of giving update for a 9+ year old model

understood. I am thinking of upgrading my HT setup now. I have Onkyo S3400 which I am using from past 8+ years.
Please suggest for
any upgrade keeping the AVR as is and upgrade only speakers
full upgrade

I had upgraded my Onkyo HT-S3400 few years back.
- Fronts moved to surround
- Added Onkyo SKF-4800 towers as L+R
- Replaced Center with a new center Onkyo 309C(got from Japan through a friend).
Obviously sound quality improved by many notches.
After few yrs of upgrade, the AVR(HT-R390) went bad(no sound issue). With no repair possible, due to non-availability of the parts, I had to upgrade to Yamaha AVR(RX-V585) with it the sub woofer to Bic F12 as the new AVR doesn't support passive sub.
You may upgrade your Fronts & Center to Pioneer(SP-FS52 towers + SP-C22 center). I read somewhere that few of the FMs have upgraded Onkyo HT-S3400 to Pioneers.
However, availability of pioneers is an issue these days. So, keep your options open and explore other speakers.

Thanks for info shinshya. that is really helpful. luckily my AVR still works in good condition . The sound quality is good but i felt somewhat the punch is missing.
I will explore more options about upgrading speakers.
