Oppo BDP-83 .... - bluray disc player

Final price for modded BD83 without custum duty = Rs.34580.6

I thought you said you are getting it at 28k? Modding costs should not be more than 3.5k and I am sure you can do it yourself.

Also, it may be better from a customs perspective to get the mod separately as tipping the price over 25k will probably hurt you more.

Shipping Free in US? I paid $10 to get it shipped 30 minutes drive away from Oppo HQ.

I got it through Amazon with free shipping.

BTW, just got my hands on my bd83 player, seems much heavier than thought. The package was huge, so the person getting it needed to throw away the carton except for the cloth bag.

Hi friends,
I came here to ask if 35000 was a good price for BD-83 delivered in India. That too region unlocked. Funny I don't even have to ask the question. People are paying much higher than that already. I compared the US price and 35000 sounded a little costly to me. I think its not costly by Indian standards.

Dealer said Price Rs.35k is for modded BD83 & express delivery.

I got my Oppo BDP83 sometime in Dec for about Rs. 40k from an ebay seller, including customs, express delivery. it was hardware modded... compared to that, 35k is excellent. I hope it includes any customs..

No,thats the problem as custom may charge 5k+.

Borderlinx seems the best bet.

Estimated charges to India

Item USD INR
Duty $ 22.09 INR 1003.18
Taxes $ 71.79 INR 3260.24
Shipping (5.10 kg) $ 53.25 INR 2418.27
Total shipping charges $ 147.13 INR 6681.71
Plus original product value $ 499.00 INR 22661.42
Total cost $ 646.13 INR 29343.13

If you can get the mod chip guys to ship to Borderlinx it might add another $70 to the cost.

BRILLIANT pricing I would think - esp considering it will reach your doorstep in 3-4 days!

I started using the BDP 83 for audio and video (BD and DVD's). The CD Audio quality was a big improvement from my Sony DVD but thats not much of a benchmark. I am not posting any pictures as Ashish has put in some lively pics and I thought there is no pt in repeating it.

The Blu ray playback is as good as expected. I am still playing around with the DVD picture quality, hope to keep tweaking to get the best. My current setup is video is using HDMI to my HD ready LCD and the audio is stereo using direct stereo for avr. Will try out the SACD and other region Blu rays when they arrive next week.

The region modification install was a simple, yet tense process and works beautifully.

The Spears and Munsil disc is amazing and is a worthwhile investment for calibrating your display. My general TV picture quality has improved significantly post that.

The cons are the tray seems to be making a sound similar to computer trays and doesn't feel expensive and the remote keys are not tactile enough. However, the options in the remote are immense so a universal remote can only do a portion of what the functions that can be set.

I am ready to pay custom duty. From which site can I import the player reliably?

Also a noob question - does it play mp4, mkv and reads .srt files?
