Out of warranty service options for PS3

My PS3 decided to join my already troubled HT setup (lost my mic for mcacc setup..stupid..stupid..stupid me). The optical drive stopped working when i was testing my setup with CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays..Called Sony service center. They said get lost as i bought my PS3 in US. They only offer % discount for buying new PS3 if i can provide the proper bill from India. There is no concept of servicing PS3 :sad:.
Googled around..clicked some random links and found a guy who is quoting Rs.6500 for replacing the optical drive :annoyed:. ..looks like i am running out of options..what do you guys suggest?

Even I had the same problem with my PS3, I guess it is problem with dust. Just give a try, if you are ready to open.
Most of the repair guys will just do this and take out money from us... So please take care abt that...

@gcpraveen..how did you fix the problem? I tried with air blaster last night. That did not solve the problem .
I am thinking about ordering a replacement drive from ebay and replacing it myself.

If you jailbreak ur ps3 you will bot require your optical drive for most of ur jobs
