P42V20 - Demo Piece - Need Advice!

Think I'll just push my budget extensively and go for the 50VT20 or 50ST30. Problem is, which one?

The VT has slightly better PQ, less reflections and THX mode.
The ST has 2D->3D upscaling & is a newer model.

The price difference of 2-3K is negligible, but what's the best choice? Going for an older model which lacks a feature which has little significance in real world applications, or going for a newer model which is almost as good as a 1.5 year old higher end model?

Iam sure you won't be able to tell them apart in PQ if not placed side by side.
Design and looks of ST30 is better. Has more media support and 2D->3D.

So, are you suggesting I pick up the 50ST30? I know you, personally, would prefer the 50VT20, wouldn't you?

On a lighter note, wondering if you are choosing the TV was for Blasto, rather than for yourself ;)

BTW, do demo the 2D->3D conversion for yourself. While the effects come nowhere close to playing real 3D content, its a matter purely of personal experience and preference.

USB format support is a plus, but there are easy ways to overcome that limitation.

All said and done, at a shockingly low price of 75K with 2 glasses (Aug 2011 model, I presume), I would vote for the ST30.

Well, Blasto is aware of all the pros and cons inside out, his opinion would definitely sway mine :)

On a serious note, isn't there a brightness issue with the ST models?

My tele isn't going to be featured in a magazine article, yet. So it really doesn't matter if it's a 2010 or 2011 model. No one's going to be able to tell the difference between the two.

Out of sheer viewing pleasure, VFM and quality, which one would make more sense?

I just came into some unexpected cash and as such will prolly pick up the tele tomorrow (11.11.11) - would look cool on my receipt :P

Just need to decide which one to go for.

Finally, a demo of the ST from 2D->3D upscaling would be a little difficult considering none of the stores have it on display. I'd have to go to Thane or Mulund to demo that. The Panasonic brandstore in my area has one on display, but it's a B2B portal. I guess I'll go have a look anyway, check out the 2D->3D conversion myself.

Unfortunately that holds true only for 2D capabilities. I cannot view 3D for more than 15 mins and so my views are mostly irrelevent in 3D. More so since I did not demo 3D atall let alone 2D->3D.

It has lesser fine tuning and only basic setting options. It looks darker from above due to the filter character. Still people complain that it has brightness issues. Never seen it at home so can't comment.

For pure 2D VT20 is same as this years GT30 which is a step above ST30. ST30 lacks 24hz capabilities and smoother 50Hz than VT20. VT20 is slightly better in colours. VT30 looks better (check naveen's thread). 3D, demo it yourself. Finally decide yourself. :)

I demo'd the 3D on both the TV's - honestly, couldn't spot much of a difference because both of them had different media playing. I quite liked the 3D on the 50VT20.

Not really concerned with how the tele looks. All I care about is getting the best value at my budget.

Considering the brightness issues in the ST30 series, it's a definite no-no. My primary usage would be movies and PS3 gaming, brightness is a necessity.

As for the 2D->3D conversion, I believe I can achieve that using Cyberlink PowerDVD 2D-3D as well. Thus, I don't need to go in for an inferior tele for 1 minor feature. Let's face it, how often will we use that feature anyway?

Long story short, I've pretty much finalized the 50VT20D. Will let you guys know what deal I get tomorrow when I go in for the negotiations and the billing.
