Hi
I am looking to replace my old 50" Plasma which just dies a few days back. I was getting an attractive price on the Panny 55ET5D. ANother dealer recommended the 55WT50 which he said was the top of the line model. It costs 30% more. Is it worth it?
One disadvantage I found of the WT50 was that it had active 3D while the ET5D has passive 3D.
thanks

I have got the ET55. Bought it about a month ago. I too saw the WT50. But two points made me go for the ET55, attractive pricing and the passive 3D. Its quite a good TV and VFM. Blu ray pics are extremely good.

Why is it that the WT50 with Active 3D is more expensive than the ET5D with Passive 3D? Isn't Passive 3D a later technology?

I will opt for 55WT5D if you get it around that price. The PQ is a tad better and also I think it is top of the range from Pana in LED series.

The WT50 is 120k. The ET is 25k cheaper

A new WT50 at that price is good. But it all depends on your requirements. What are your opinions of 2D? Forget which one is latest tech; plasma tech was declared dead a thousand times.

If budget is no constraint then WT50 else ET5D.

I judge displays on 2D only.

Let me check if I can ask for lower price.

Got the WT50. Pretty spectacular TV. Easy to setup. One observation. A lot brighter than my old plasma. Definitely a bit more eyestrain than the plasma. But looks so good. I think SD was pretty comparable on the plasma (50" 1366x768). The HD channels are incredible. Yet to see the 3D. I have a Cirque Du Soleil BluRay I need to try.
Replied, Manzb

Thanks Shaiju

I saw the ET5D before buying this one. Bought this one (WT50) without seeing it. It has an excellent picture probably a shade better than the ET5D. I found this very similar to the Samsung 8000 series. Is this a fully backlit while the ET5D is edge lit?

WT50 is also edge lit but with local dimming feature. It's pseudo dimming feature that may or may not improve black levels.

Did you get any 3D glasses with it?

Shaiju/ Garfield.. The PQ of WT50D is much better than ET5D. The Panel itself looks so good, and the you can feel the difference if you can see them side by side. But the PQ is not so outstanding for the additional premium they used to ask. But considering that Garfield got it at a price which nothing but steal, I think it's great choice.

Thanks Garfield for the reply.

i was considering 50DT60 till today, available at 1.04lac, till today. (13K Less then WT50)

Pros:
DT is 2013 -with "My home screen"
- Is this "My Home Screen" really a nice feature?? will i miss this if i go with WT50.

Cons:
5 inch lesser then 55WT50.

Will it be worth going for WT50 for the extra 5 inches its offering at 1.17lac from Brandshop bangalore.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
