Panasonic P42U30 or Samsung 43D490

Hi guys,

I am looking for a 42/43" Plasma basically for movies purposes and selected Pana P42U30D which is a full HD and 43D490 3D 720p plasma panel. I have seen X30 and 43D490 side by side, to me 43D490 looks more sharper and vibrant. I know U30 has a better panel but due to unavailability I couldn't manage to check/compare it with Sammy.

Also heard that Panasonic U30 has Anti-Glare coating whereas Sammy doesn't comes with AG coating which makes it more sharper and vibrant.

I am really confused so any suggestions provided here would be highly appreciated.

I would definitely go with a Full HD TV than 1024x768 resolution 43D490

Samsung has 1280x720 resolution IMO.

I also believe Panasonic dominates in plasma technology but Samsung felt(HD content) better in real world.

No it is 1024x768 resolution.

I also had the same doubt initially but after evaluating both the TV's. Here are my observations
1. Blu Ray/HD content - I felt Panny has a better PQ on HD content (of course its Full HD)
2. SD content from Normal DTH - I did n't get a chance to evaluate U30 on this. But as few forum members Sammy does better upscaling than Panny
3. SD content from HD DTH(Airtel HD) - Both look almost the same
File format - Sammy supports more than Panny
I almost finalized my decision on U30 but holding up due to new arrival of UT30 series. Once I get to see a demo of UT30 I will decide

Off course, i would go for a HD DTH, but even then at home they would watch SD content predominantly and once in a while we might watch the HD channels like discovery n NGC. The viewing distance at home would be around 6 - 8 feet, and the TV would be placed in living room besides a huge french window with curtains. I got a quote of 45K @ Giria's on Bannerghatta road.

Please advice.

That is a good deal. Did you check out the TV? How do you find it on SD feed? Let me know your observations.

As per my observation SD content from a normal DTH was not that great. I couldn't come to a conclusion as the LCD TV next to it was also had same PQ. So the SD signal it self may b a palm. But when I checked on another store SD content was good even at a distance of 4-5ft and when I enquired its from Airtel HD DTH. You better get a demo and decide

Checked Samsung PS43D490 which is a 43 HD 3D plasma in flipkart it comes at around 40k with two 3D glasses free. Is this a good deal?

1.hd/ FHD depends ho far you sit from your tv. there is a tv viewing thread,check it out. also Google tv viewing distance calculator. i think its 3 to 4 feet for FHD on a 42 inch tv and 6 to 7 for hd. beyond that you wont make out the difference!
2. The Samsung is HD and the Panasonic is FHD also the 43d490 has a slightly better upscaler and can play more formats.If you watch more of SD channels at a distance of 8 to 10 feet than the Samsung is better.
i have demoed both and found the Samsung more vivid and lively while the Panasonic was more subtle but dint look that lively.

find out how far you want to sit from your tv and demo both. they are both good tvs!

Buy Panasonic 42GT20. It is available for as low as 45k in some places if you bargain hard. 42GT20 is a Full HD 3D plasma with gr8 performance.
