Hi Friends,
I am planning to purchase a new television next month. I had some visits to nearby shops, and some investigation in internet.
Now I am looking for 42 Plasma, and not interested in 3D.
I have shortlisted VIERA TH-P42U30D, VIERA TH-P42X30D and in confusion to pick one.
Mainly watching SD channels, and DVDs.
Can anyone guide me too choose one?
I can extend my budget for VIERA TH-P42GT20D if its worth for watching 2D.

Thanks in advance...

GT20 is certainly worth it as it has neoPDP. i would choose samsung 490D or 450 D over x30. but as you said, you can stretch your budget for GT 20 so go for it, you wont regret it. Just check some reviews in this forum. a little downside i could see was that GT20 is fairly limited when it comes to supporting formats through USB but i think it's not as important as PQ, where GT20 passes with flying colors.

Thanks vikram..

I would like to clarify three doubts...
1. Is there any decrease in picture Quality, colour.. when watching 2D movies in 3D television?
2. What is the difference between neoPDP, and neoPlasma?
3. Is it worth buying VIERA TH-P42GT20D if my content mostly SD video?

hi Friends,
I recently brought TH-P42U30D 42" plasma. I am facing an unique problem. I am not able to watch movies from my portable hard disk and my SD card. But when the service man has come he is able to play movies from both his USB pendrive and SD memorycard. Need your help on this

Thanks vikram..

1. No. in fact some people here in the forum have experienced the opposite.
2. Both are same. NeoPDP is the superior panel that panasonic comes with, GT20 has very good filters as well.
3.Its always subjective, so its different for different people. This is my take on it: More and more channels are coming in HD, plus we buy tv for 4 to 5 years so by that time everything would be HD so investing in HD seems a wise idea.
I am sure there will be people who would think otherwise as i said it's subjective. why don't you go to some shop, have a demo of all these tv's and decide.
Again i must warn you, it does not play all formats through USB(i don't want you blaming me later when you find out ;)) but that's just a little nuisance which can be taken care later on. Remember you can always buy a media player later, but you can not enhance picture quality once you bought the TV.

In simple words, minimal improvements in 2D in a perfectly dark room.
Very very good advantages in bright room or in a room with lights on. This is because of a panel with better contrast and also Anti reflective filter which are absent in the U series and which works effectively in a GT.
Plus, there is 3D and 2 glasses free. It is a no brainer.

Try formatting your pen drive in fat 32 and try again.

Thanks vikram for clarification.
panaplasma what you think about your new TV? any other issues like ghost image?

Hi, congrats on selecting Panasonic...........they make some of the best tv's. Let me explain below the series:

2D : V20
3D : VT30, VT20, GT30, ST30

all the above tv's come with panasonic's patent neo pdp plasma and infinite black pro. you should pick up any one of the above depending on budget and requirement. all the above tv's are the best you can find in the market.

Pan U and X series do not have neo pdp panels and therefore cant be compared to the above. They are entry level tv's and are good value, but if you really want to see the magic of what panasonic is all about, you need to select any one from the above. They are worth every penny.

V20 does not come with the pro filter in india. Its the same Infinite black filter used in G series internationally.

It is not bad either.

Thanks aakashr,
I am not interested in 3D TV, but i couldnt find any 2D having neoPDF in market.
All says V20 is the best, but its no longer available in shops. I am from kerala, searched many shops here.
So shall I go for GT30? Also note I am watching SD chanels mostly.
Please let me know if I skipped any other model (LED, LCD) which gives a better viewing experience.

Keep trying to source V20, I am aware stocks are limited but I hope you just might get lucky. Wasn't there a group buy for V20? If not V20, then I guess your best bet would be the GT20..........even though this is 3D, it comes neo pdp.

I am not sure when VT30 and GT30 will launch in India, they are from panasonic's 2011 line up.

Thanks Akash.. so I shall go got GT20.
Can anyone say the price fot UT30, GT20?
I need 42'..

UT30 is not yet reached any stores (at least in BLR). Checked yesterday in a Pana brandshop...they still have no idea when it will be available

GT20 is selling for ~<50k. GT20 is a good PDP and with it's Infinite Black filter will be better for viewing in well lighted room conditions.

When I checked in one of the stores I was quoted 65K for 42UT30 without any nego. IMHO this is not VFM. I will either go with U30 or ST30. I'm not able to fin 42GT20 in Chennai
