hi fellow members,
does any decent Panasonic Plasma with 50"+ model exist without 3D?
one of my friend is looking, we been to Reliance Digital, next, and some other store.. it seems every shop trying to sell their plasma with 3D. with price bracket 1-1.5L.

just wondering if non-3d 50"+ model of Panasonic were never built or extinct ?

The V20 series was a non 3d panasonic flag ship plasma tv, but its not in production any more. You may find the demo units if you are lucky.

It will be difficult, if not impossible, to find a non-3D model at that size and price. Why is your friend averse to buying a 3d model? 3D does not mean you cannot watch 2d. Besides you are being slightly future proof.

due to 2 reason:-
1. He will use that as a monitor for this art/photoshop training classes, need plasma for right color tone.

2. with 3d feature price is going over budget. 42" non 3d avilable in 35+k where as 50" with 3D available in 90K.

The price difference is not just because of 3D. There are many other aspects as well:

- the panel quality is different
- panel will have more contrast and black level
- panel size will be larger
- etc.

3D feature will at best raise the price of the model by a mere 8K (not including the glasses).

Besides 90+K is for the high end models such as 50ST30D. The 50UT30D should be available for much less.

Panasonic use to have the 50 Plasma 3D TV 3 months ago with the model number 50X30D, but they have discontinued this product.

LG, Samsung and Panasonic also do not have the 50 plasma TV without 3D. But the good news is, LG plans to launch a 50 Plasma TV without 3D soon, but the tentative launch date and price are not yet disclosed.

Let me clarify a few things about Panasonic. They make some of the best plasmas but I would suggest to go with Panasonic only if you go for their neo pdp panels. these are found on the V, S, G series and NOT on the u, X, A series. If budget does not permit to go for the hi end series, then you are better off with a Samsung plasma. Samsung make better entry level budget plasmas.
Coming to 3D.............unfortunately all the new 2011 and 2012 models now come only with 3D. You will get the U, X and A series in 2D. I myself have the V20, the best 2D tv from Panasonic. It won most of the TV awards when it was launched............literally took Panasonic to another level. If you can still source the V20, it is still one of the BEST 2D tv's in the market, if you do manage to find stock. Some dealers may still have few pieces. It was 1.25L when it was launched but now you should get it for around 70-80k.

Thanks for the info.
btw he settled down with a Panasonic 42" (~34K), it seems above 42 is real pain in a$$ to find :D
