Panasonic Plasma ST60: Ownership thread

Tried wired connection 100 Mbps this time and used a DLNA server on my laptop.
I could play most movies, but not all. Somehow I am more comfortable getting a WD TV hub or something similar at the moment.

When you say most of the movies, what were the other formatted movies it could not play?

You should go thru my ST50 thread. It is a long thread but you can skip many posts and just read my updates. The ST60 is not vastly different. Whatever issues you have are already addressed.

I was hoping there was some improvement in terms of the media player in this year's model. But looks like there is none.

I am still not sure about this.
I had an MKV file which is reported by VLC as:
H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)

The sample of this movie played fine after transcoding, but the actual movie did not play even after transcoding.

Another example was an SBS 3D movie which failed transcoding repeatedly. It was about 4 GB in size.

I have now two changes made at home to get more out of DLNA.
1. My TV is now connected to my switch via CAT5 - so I can avoid wireless range problems.
2. My desktop is also connected to same switch via CAT5 and now installed with Serviio DLNA server.

I tried playing a few movies of my desktop (using DLNA on the TV). All other movies played fine.
However, I noticed a loss of quality during streaming. For example, my Avatar BDRip did not seem to have the same quality as when plugged in via USB.

The same two movies which did not play earlier failed to work. Transcoding happens but nothing works for the SBS 3D movie. For the other movie, the audio goes ahead and is choppy. The video freezes for 20-30 seconds and goes ahead to some other frame and again freezes for 20-30 seconds.

So, now I am going to do some troubleshooting with Serviio guys and see where the problem is.

I am now researching on what formats the TV plays by default and what can be played via DLNA (through transcoding).

Hopefully I will be out with my analysis in a week's time.

But there are various factors such as the the codec, the level and the audio format.

I realized that 50% of the videos I had did not play and most of them were DivX.

Ironically, the newer codec, Xvid plays fine on the TV, but the older does not.

Also, level 5.0 videos get stuck on TV and you can see one frame every 20-30 seconds.

Not many would be interested in this, since they have a dedicated media player or a BD player, but perhaps someone might find this interesting?

One key observation: DivX format .avi files are NOT supported by the TV.

Dvix/Xvid AVI files (700 Mb movies) play very well on ST50. I am not much of a download guy myself but I haven't found anything that does not play on the TV. Another fm, mr_zed, had come to my house with some BD rip clips on USB. They played too. My BDP also plays almost everything except VCD.

How much did you pay for the ST60 brah? Congrats on the purchase.

You got it via an AD or from the grey market?

At least on ST60, DivX does not work, but Xvid works fine.

I am also observing that one of my external USB hard disk is not working well with the TV. The same files played via a pen drive work fine. :)

I will be buying a new 1/2 TB hard disk shortly.

At the moment market price is around 1.1 lac at brand shops.

Hi Vakharia,

Can you check this link

Panasonic LED FHD 3D TV TH-P50ST60D Price: Buy Panasonic LED FHD 3D TV TH-P50ST60D Online in India - Infibeam.com

Is this the same TV you bot?

Also tell me how does SD DTH ( zee marathi) picture looks on this tv.

Thanks
Yes. The same TV - though the site mentions "LED" which is incorrect.

SD looks fine on the TV if your transmission is good. We watch SAB TV and Pogo, both of which are SD. They are fine, though HD is much better.

.

For DivX try following. It worked for altogether different product but you can give a try.

Dont play Divx file directly from root. Create a folder with file name and place your divx inside the folder. Now press play at folder level and not going inside the folder to the file.

If its works, you will need to create a separate folder for each for all files.

Hi,

I am planning to buy 50ST60 from infibeam.
Is it advisable to get this online?
Any special care I have to take if I buy it online

Also anyone knows how to check for tv usage hours of this model?

Thanks

Connected my Raspberry Pi over the weekend to use it as a media player.
Best part is that the Panasonic remote can completely control the RPi interface. Yay! :)
No need for a mouse. :)

Checked for system update this morning.
Panasonic surprised me with an update. Yay!

I have moved from 4.685 to 4.712.

I really don't know what the changes are though.
This site should list those, but they don't have the 2013 TV's listed there at the moment.
So, Panasonic still has to pull up its socks.

the panasonic st60 does not perform well with SD....better go for the samsung plasma ps51f5500 which offers excellent picture with both SD and HD
