Dear friends,

I am new this forum & would like to request your expert advice on the following Plasma TV Model - Panasonic VIERA TH-P50U20D. I got a quote for Rs.66K from a prominent dealer in Bangalore.

Would you advice that I go ahead with this model? Are there any major issues with this one?

I am migrating from a 32inch Panasonic LCD & would primarily use this new TV for Sports & Movies.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Best Regards,
Aditya

its a good model and even SD looks better.. office collegue of mine pciked it in lieu of PK550 as that went bad for 64k...

66k is a good deal.. however try for more.. its a very good TV... check the panasonic thread and people have positive feedback for the same.

my friend intially bought a PK550 and after 10 days had issues with dead pixels...

as per the specs.. pk550 is definitely better however the upscaling isint good for Sd channels..

we used tata sky for pk550.. after pk550 was no longer in stock we got the full refund and picked a 50u20 and its amazing even in SD channels..

i would suggest go for pana... we have many threads for pk550 and also pana.. have a look at them..

Hi,

66 looks like a brilliant price.

I am also looking for the 50" plasma from pana. Could you pm the dealer detail.
Would be really helpful.

Arun

i bought my 50U20D almost more then a month back and i am super thrilled with it
i bought it for 64k from the mumbai dealer and also got a casio synthesizer free as a scratch card win
even my pana 32lcd went kaput but i still preferred to go with pana cause their plasmas are the best
buy it without any issues cause this tv can deliver what you want it
i am not a great videophile here but trust me you would not regret it.

Hi friends,
Booked a pana 50U20 for 62.5k in mumbai. delivery on 5th Apr.
Cheers.

Btw is ther any diff betn 50U20 and 50U20D???

Regards.

Hi folks,

We too purchased the 50U20D - it's Full HD (I dont think we have the HD-ready version of this in India). Bought it from Giria's bangalore for 63k.

Fully satisified with it - especially SD looks quite good (since most of the time we watch SD, and HD channels are limited, this was an important criteria). Paired it with Tata Sky DTH (SD)...HD through my media streamer is of course awesome.

got my 50u20D today..........got it from panasonic brand shop in madurai for 58 k ...........SD looks good......

Although a new version of this is launched in india last week called u30d with usb and ethernet as add on...its available for 64.5 k at bangalore koramangala panasonic brandshow room....but am satisfied with 20d

I would recommend returning this model and going for u30d instead. The black levels in u30 panel are much better. Even the x30 (720p) models have better blacks and colour reproduction than u20d. I checked this very carefully in a shopping festival about 2 weeks ago.

I too had though about u20d but decided to drop the idea for the time being. You got a good deal (58K) but that is because the TV is being phased out. Becuase no matter what, in Pune, no dealer was ready to go below 68k for the 50u20d.

I agree, when I compared X30 PQ looked better than the X20. Almost equivalent to V20. X30 performed better than Samy C550 and LG 460 LCDs in all respects, both in SD and HD. Looks like Pany has done some improvements in the X series.

@peeyushm....
I checked the demo of X30, U30 and V20 (all 42") side by side using the Panasonic Blu Ray content. To my eyes, I could not see any difference

Upon standing very close, I could see the letters (like Panasonic) showing lot of lines compared to the Full HD model (I was standing 30 cm from the TV).

I am really confused whether the 6k premium for U30D over X30 is worth? I've heard from many ppl here that Full HD is future proof. But when I am going to watch the TV from a distance of 7-8 feet, will the difference ever matter? (Screen size - 42")

Cheers,
Esh

You are right in your inference. At a distance of 6-8 ft. on a 42" TV, you will not find much difference, even if watching true 1080p content. But a difference 6k for U30 will be worth spending. HTH.
