Hi Guys!
Of late I am having problem with sound on my tv.
Its as if the speakers are bursting especially when you watch movies.
Conversations are clear. News can be heard clearly.

Any way i can check what is wrong with the set without opening the back cover?
Both the speakers cant go bad simultaneously.
I suspect it is the audio board.
Is a fresh board available?

Is a service manual available for this set?
thanks in advance

Hi,

Check the source input volume levels (if it can be adjusted, reduce it little).

Certain channels (cable operator) might have boosted the signal and hence would cause such issues....

Does the TV have Bass + Treble tonal settings that can be adusted? EQ modes?

Tweak and check.....

If TV is under warranty, demand for replacement of speakers etc...

Thanks efernand1.
I have a d2h connection, and this problem is on all channels.
I have already tried adjusting the bass and treble, no use.
This is a 4 year old set and i doubt if panasonic will have any parts for this tv.
Nobody is making plasmas any more. If any thing it will have to be from after market.

@titus_canbe: If the TV has audio out port, you can lend external 2.1 speakers or soundbar from your friend. If they too sound bad, then you can conclude the problem is in the board. If not it will be speakers.

You can then permanently replace with the external speakers / soundbar if the problem is in speakers or else get the board repaired (if possible)... good luck...

The cones of the twin woofers, tiny ones at that, would have ruptured likely due to playing at high volumes or aging of the surrounds. I have had similar issues with my samsung led and jbl onbeat extreme. Is easy to rectify if you have the courage to disassemble you tv.

Just put a thin layer of fevicol along the rim of the surround and let it to dry avd viola they will be up and running as new.

Thanks guys for your suggestions.
I have not tried external speakers yet i shall try with them also the tv is connected to sony home theater. I shall try playing thru that also.
The speaker cones if faulty they can be re coned. But that involves a lot of trouble.

hi,
do you hear loud vibrations on the TV back panel in bassier sounds?

Yes. and at the there is loud cracking sounds

this has been a common problem with this model. it was reported by a few other members too IIRC. on my set, its not a regular occurrence but have gotten it multiple times esp. during bassy sequences in movies. regular TV stuff doesn't gives rise to it.

I'd also suggest to get a decent 2.1 system to use with the TV. far better sound-output that way.

Thanks @TheSeeker!
Ok I just checked in the audio settings the left channel audio is very low. The right is fine but less bass.
Also I will try with the home theater and see how is the output and post it here.
If it is the board problem then the output with a 2.1 or home theater will not work i presume.

Ok here is the up date.

When I switch on the home theater, the audio from the set top box goes to the home theater and the audio is fine.
Tried locating the audio out, it is an rca jack for left and right channels and not a 3.5mm jack.
Will dig out this jack, if I have it and hook it up with bluetooth speakers with 3.5 mm aux in.

If l am not wrong I can also see a optical digital out to the left of the analog audio out. This is a nice way of getting quality audio out if you have a reciever for dolby digital sound or quality stereo sound if you have an external dac. I use this with my panasonic 50gt50.

Do give a try after opening your tv to repairing the original driver units. You can check a disassembly guide online or watch a YouTube video. It is not exactly rocket science at least the audio part of it.

if your HT system accepts digital in, then do as mentioned above by audiodoc. better option. else use the output from the STB directly to the HT. no need to use the RCA out from the TV. I do that only with my PS4 (RCA out from TV to HT), as my HT is fully analog.

Thanks @Audiodoc and @TheSeeker!
I tried out the rca out, connected it to a blue tooth speaker with aux in. The sound was distortion free.
Now the question is how much would it cost me to repair/replace the audio board + the effort i have to put in ( I have mounted it on a wall mount ) to remove the back panel, remove the board give it for repairs or try to repair it my self ( I am a tech from the old era ) Is worth the trouble getting the sound board repaired?
V/S
If I get a 2.1 speaker system or a sound box or
play it with my ht system always
My home theater is a sony 5.1 system

In case the audio out is fine the audio board will most likely be fine. I seriously diagnose a ruptured cone depending on the symptoms. You can repair them with fevicol or fevibond or replace them.

And one more thing you can do is I am sure the speakers are generic ones which I am sure you will get in the electronics market in Mumbai. Maybe new local or used original.

Should not cost you much also. Should be an easy open, replace and fix job if the fevibond method does not work.
