Guys,

I was leaning towards the LED-LCD TV's, with Plasma never really being up on my list. Happened to see a demo of the 50V20D and was blown, and now I am leaning towards this model.

Which one of the the above two, in your opinion should I go with ?

I have a rather large window opposite -- and am not sure how the Panny will play out in daytime. I would be mainly watching movies, games with ~20% gaming.

Also, is there any reason why V20D is so much more higher priced than the U20D ? Reading through the forums it seems that the V20D sold over here does not come Infinite Black Pro or THX - Can someone confirm ?

TIA,
-tanid

I have a panny v20, i have put wooden blinds in my living room which does allow a fair amount of light into the room and it doesnt affect the viewing experience that much, but the picture quality is mind blowing when the room is dark, personally speaking i wouldnt worry about it if its Plasma indeed that you are going for.

Coming to your second query the sets sold india dont have Infinite black or THX, but from what i have ready THX is basically a setting which you can calibrate, this TV does provide a plethora of options to calibrate and some of the default settings like Cinema mode are pretty good.

Thanks for the info, Manu. Have you purchased the set in Bangalore ? I am getting a quote of between 1.05-1.08 from various places. Is this a decent price ?

I wont be able to comment on the price for the 50 incher .. i got myself a 42 inch... however i suggest you check out the following outlets

Unitlet Koramangala on KHB colony near Filling station, i bought mine over here just bargain hard and wait they will call you back ;)

Another place in Blore whcih has been reccomended every now and then for good deals on this forum is ... Grihavihava in Jaynagar... more details @ at :Griha Vaibhav Marketing Jayanagar 5th Blk in Jayanagar Bangalore - Justdial

Here's my modus operandi :D

1.. Call over phone , enquire about the availibility , color options  and price ....

2... Ask them over phone if they can give the best offer

3... Tell them to call back with a better price

4... Next day onwards they will start buzzing you " Saar, come to the showroom we will discuss n all ...

Btw if your are planning to purchase around a festival season or month end you have more chances of getting a better bargain ....

I would have sealed the deal if the price was anywhere between 95-97 k but i will leave for other members who have purchased the 50 incher to comment...

I got mine for 1.02 in Delhi....no infinite black pro....but infinite black is good....at least the best being sold in India....and about the U20...it does not have infinite black at all...no usb/lan ...no isf calibration ..and btw THX is replaced by true cinema mode here...its just the same but for THX branding you need the infinite black pro filter

Thanks!

What formats were you able to play from the USB ?

You can play divx/avi till divx hd resolutions but you cannot play the .mkv as it is supposedly divx plus....some of my xvid avi downloads are not playing properly the pictures gets stuck after few seconds...haven't researched on the reason for that...but I play them either thru the PS3 or my bluray player as I haven't connected the audio output from the tv to my AV receiver yet and i never listen to my TV speakers :) so will do research on that...though it plays youtube videos at great resolution...you can always get a media player which plays these formats separately....also no vob/.mp4/.m2ts etc...so be warned
