Hi taking clue from other boarders who have started such threads, opening one myself. Compared to other models we may not have too much to tweak around or settings to play with, but am sure we can share our moments - good and bad.

Still figuring out how to paste photographs.

Just got it delivered, service center called to confirm they will install it today. Thx

Have u been offered by 5.1 HT??
Tell me abt this TV, how do you feel, PQ, etc. I am planning to buy this TV within 1or 2days.

I think the MRP of this piece is 65K and since he was selling it at 15K less I doubt if I will get the HT free. The panasonic service center lady just now called up for installation but she had no clue about the HT offer. If I get a HT on this free..i will be on top of the world

Bhopal brand shop offered this offer to me.

Ok..just called up the local brand shop and he denied the HT offer. Again I am hoping this one is like the Samsung offer where they send the freebies directly to your house..so if there is the offer then am sure I will get it as well.

brand shop did confirm free glasses although the panasonic website says no glasses. did your brand shop too confirm the glasses?

The HT will be given after 40 days direct from Panasonic not from dealer and dealer is giving one glass. Price is 48K.

Asked another dealer and they confirmed the offer. She didnt have the stock but said they (brand shop) are offering it and hence if I buy it else where I may not get it. Maybe she was right or that was just a sale offer. Lets see.

Brand shop/dealer is not offering the HT. Panasonic is. I checked with my dealer. He said that it is a "surprise gift" sent directly to the buyer's address.

I have checked with 3 brandshops in 2 cities and also seen an SMS with a dealer that came from company (Panasonic) directly - the HT offer is on 12 models of LED, Plasma etc and 50XT50 is not among them. I specifically checked for 50XT50 since I am keen for this model as well - the HT offer is for 42XT50 & for 50" plasma - its there for 50UT50 & up.

MRP for 50XT50- 69.9K (includes 2 3D glasses)
Selling Price - 62-65 K (including 2 3D glasses)

In your case,
Selling Price - 50K (without 3D glasses)

Since you didnt get the 3D Glasses, probably the cost of the same was reduced from the selling price (6.5K each perhaps)....

HT is not being offered on this model.

Yes although for all other dealers in all the cities are revealing that the gift is HT system (model also) that would be given with certain models...

Ok. TV is installed. Here are my initial views:

(1) The TV for some reason looks smaller than my 46 inch LCD. I actually took a thread and measured to make sure I didnt get a 42inch!! Confirmed it is 50 inches. May be because my samsung had 3 inch frame vs 1 inch here, my eyes seem to think this is same size as 46 inches
(2) Extremely glazy - to be expected. However if one is immersed in the program, one may not notice it. But definitely curtains have to be down on all windows
(3) HD looks very good which is to be expected.
(4) SD from 10 feet and under looks very bad compared to LCD. - this is a cause of worry because most of the stuff like news channels are in SD
(5) The motion on the Plasma looks different - you have the camcorder effect - particularly on HD channels. initially I thought it was because of 24fps vs 30fps thingy. but now I realise this is more of a Plasma vs LCD thing. Eyes need to get used to this kind of motion - it may be natural but looks a bit odd
(6) Compared to what I saw in the showroom yesterday - it looks good - but again the SD channels are a dampner
(7) Currently I am watching in "normal" which is 50 contract and color and 0 brightness. I think anything under a contrast of 75 - it looks really dull - except of course HD movies - so this too seems a dampner.

So overall my initial impressions is that for a layman, stick to LCD/LED and do not go for natural colors, natural fluidity....etc because the eyes are used to artificial colors and brightness.

Maybe after few days I will increase the brightness and contrast - maybe that will make things better.

You should reduce contrast further to 35-37 for the first 100 hours.

LED/LCD are always brighter any day and colours are also vivid. It is a matter of choice.

Yeah I heard that..Thx.

Hopefully it will improve after 100 hours..Also then I will have more freedom in terms of increasing brightness and contrast.

I think there is a sticky on what to do in first 100 hours..Let me read that and follow the instructions.

I went into the service menu to check the TV usage.

readings are 002:19 and 4 - guess this means the TV has run for 2 hours and has been switched on 4 times?
That is correct. No need to worry. A couple of of switch on/off, must have happened on your own home.

Bro Amprasad, This is helluva feedback / information you have shared and would help people like myself to decide if buying plasma is the way to go. Most of us watch SD/HD combination using STB and from viewing distance of 6-12 ft.
May I request you to click some pictures are share here - HD. SD channels from 6ft & 12 ft, reflections (if any)...

I have almost decided on 50XT50/UT50 but now thinking of checking 46/47" LEDs for little more (70K range)..

For your 5 point its because of smooth motion or a similar named technology, please turn it off from menu and see a better experience.
