Philips LED New 8000/9000 Series.

I bought 46pfl8577 last week (for 85k) and I am very happy with my purchase. You will get 4 3D glasses, USB Adapters, WIFI adapter , Wall Mounts, Stand within the box.

I bought this TV as I needed a 46 inch 3D smart television for 85k. Also, you will get 50% off on Philips 3560 bluray home theater system (I didn't buy Philips 3560 as I have a high end audio system) and 2 year subscription free on Videcon d2h HD channels.

This tv comes with DDB and hence you don't need a set top box. You just need to insert the smart card into the slot (at the back of the tv) and just use the TV remote to control the channels. The HD channels are too good and worth watching.

Picture Quality - pq is too good (though not equivalent to Sony HX series which is in the higher price range) when compared to Panasonic et50 series and LG LM620 series which are in the same price range.

Configuring the tv for best picture quality which suits you is damn easy. The black levels are good and are not too dark (as in Panasonic et50) which enables this tv to suit every kind of picture. The 480hz PMR is superb and you can watch fast moving scenes without any flickering.

Sound is good, loud and clear (though bass is weak). You can't expect much on sound on any LED TV.

Tv is not so thin, it's about an inch in thickness. The bezel is narrow and is covered with glass and it looks good.

The 3D glasses are very light and comfortable. 3D experience is great ( though can't beat LG ).

TV can be connected to a wifi network using the adapter provided and user interface is very easy which enables to browse any website, watch videos on YouTube, access your emails etc.

Pros: Picture Quality, 3D experience , Ease of Use, DDB, Sound

Cons: Can't beat Sony HX series ( If you can offer 46 inch HX series, go for it).

Some time ago, I was looking at Sony EX650 and a Philips model (can't remember the number). Both were in the samiar price bracket and quality was at par.

Yes. I have seen 40" 7 series variant DDB and PQ looked fantastic.

Do you require dish for it? (No STB I know). If yes then salesperson who demoed it to me was very ignorant or had no knowledge at all as according to him it gets signal directly into tuner chip.

Does PHILIPS makes its own tv in India?. while back I heard, Philips TVs are being manufactured by some other vendor

Philips is more into research and development these days. Worldwide, there is very little that Philips manufacturers today. The consumer products are made by OEMs and branded as Philips. I could be wrong though.

Yep that is what it is now. Their Holland and Belgium plants which made TVs are closed. The last EU made philips was the 9700 series.

Philips has merged its TV business with TP Vision. TP Vision engages in developing, manufacturing and marketing Philips branded TV sets in Europe, Russia, Middle East, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and selected countries in Asia-Pacific excluding China.

The main goal for this merger is to acquire lost TV market for Philips brand. Philips now a global major in health care and lighting, wanted to create a fully dedicated consumer life style product's unit. This is the reason we are seeing a lot of advertisements nowdays on Philips consumer life style. This is good for an end customer as we can get best products out of them.

Who cares about brands(Philips or Sony or LG or Panny), if you can get a good product for less price as an end customer :)

@Viper08 -

You will need a dish antenna, but not the set top box (if the TV has DDB). You can use your existing tata sky, airtel or videocon dish antenna and get rid of the set top box.

Yes those were fantastic tvs made by Philips, I absolutely loved them.
When last year I was searching for new tv while searching for 9000 series came to know that Philips are no longer producing their tvs so I did not included them in my short list, finally ended up with Sony.
Are new Philips branded tvs manufactured by videocon/TP in same class as previous one?.

@sagarmc0040: Congrats on your new TV. The DDB feature, can it be used for any DTH operator or only Videocon D2H ? iirc Philips and Videocon are the only two brands who have this DDB feature.

@Viper08: Yes, a dish will be required. Satellite signals are too weak to reach a TV directly.

@avmaxfan: Manufactured by Videocon and marketed by Funai - the new Japanese entrant in the TV market.

I went to NEXT showroom yesterday to find out if we can use any DTH operators smart card with the DDB TV. Unfortunately the salesman said NO; it works only with Videocon D2H service. What a pathetic "new" Technology. We already had Videocon TVs with inbuilt satellite tuner for their own D2H service, now they are marketing these as DDB. How stupid!

@ Falcon - DDB is not only for viewing digital tv, it is also for cloud computing and browsing. Once we have this support from operators, no need to hook your tv to a wireless device for browsing and internet use.

@ Rohit - Videocon and Philips TVs are manufactured by TP Vision. Only difference is Videocon cannot use Philip's processor and home grown software in it's TVs.
