Hi,

Just purchased the Pioneer DVD player dv 220. There is no optical connectivity hence they have not supplied the cable. It has co-axial connectivity, and the usual composite connections. I don't have an HDMI TV, hence the HDMI cable which they have supplied is of no use to me right now.

Should I go for the co-axial connection ( for AUDIO) or should I be putting up the usual composite connections. If there is an edge in using co-axial, I would buy the co-axial cables. My amp has the co-axial slot as well. Is there a difference in performance between optical and co-axial cables. Initially I was using the Pioneer DV 366 which had an optical connection.

Just enlighten me: Optical and Co-axial cables carry only the audio signals. Right or wrong ??

u need to connect the player to the amp via a co-axial cable then only u would get 5.1 channel output.where did u buy the player from?how comw they didn't enlighten u on all these basic aspects.for video signals u can use the composite connection as u do not have a hdmi capable tv

What is the cost of 220?? I also want to buy either of 220 or 440.Hope both don't have any optical output.
Are HDMI cable coming with the pack??

Can anybody answer the query asked by Jayant so that it would be also helpful for others like me ..........

You can use one of the following two ways:

1. Connect your DVD Player to the amp using a component and digital coaxial connection. The component will carry the video, while the digital coaxial will carry 5.1 audio. Connect the amp to the TV using a component.

2. Connect the DVDP directly to the TV using a Component and to the amp using a digital coaxial. In this case, when you play a DVD, you will have to keep the TV on mute.

For short runs, there is no difference between a coaxial and optical connection.

Cheers

Dear venkat,

I have a Belkin Pure AV Digital Coaxial cable and a RCA Coaxial cable (both from US) and a so-called 'Panasonic' Optical bought in Hyd from SKElectronics (apparently it's not completely sealed and I doubt if it's original - I know that's how electronic stuff is in India in those days - I bought 4 years ago).

Which one of these three is the best to connect from Oppo BG-83 to Onkyo non-HDMI amp (for non-HD audio use)? Or should i just set player to use Analog multichannel out(I have the BJC multichannel) at all times - including use with DVD playback?

Thanks.

If you have Oppo BD83 and BJC multichannel cables - that is the best option. The Oppo's decoding is superior to most entry level AVRs.

Cheers
