Hi Good day Everyone!

My Setup:
1. Kodak TV
2. Pioneer VSX 534 ARC connected to TV with HDMI cable
3. Input1: Amazon Firestick 4K
4. Input2: Gaming PC with HDMI cable

I have Pioneer VSX 534 AVR (5.1 set up) purchased in 2020 and after using it for 1 year it got 'FL OFF' red color sign in display tried to reset but of no use. This happened due to power surge and no protection given to it for eg: Voltage stabilizer. So, I sent it to authorized service center which was out of station. Since it was under warranty, I got it repaired for free, and was reset. Again, one and half year later, only the display stopped working but all others were working. Recently in March 2024 I shifted to a new location and I set it up. After 2 months, only 3 channels working (right, center and Surround right). Then I just opened it as it was out of warranty by that time, I blew air on it for dust with an air blower and then set it up again. Surprisingly all channels started working including display. Then I thought the issue is becoz of dust. Again 3 months later all working fine except center channel which is the heart of home theatre which delivers dialogues when watching a movie. Its like hissing noise coming from the speaker but no vocals. I rechecked the connection, opened it and blew air again but of no use. Finally, it has no center channel working. Now I'm watching movies by setting it in 2.1.2 (right + left + surr right + surr left) mode. Thinking to give it to authorised service centre. He charges 1000/- for just checking. If its fixed, he charges 10000/-, if not he tells it's a complaint from logic board which costs me around 20 to 25K. I bought it for 31K in Oct 2020 which is not worth spending 25k for only logic board. If I buy, I'm planning Denon X1800 (7.2) this time for 50000/- or shall I continue with 2.1.2 set up?... Anyone please share your views what could go wrong with the center channel..

I have similar issue with my Denon X2000. The center channel was giving out weird sounds for 2-3 days. Now, it gives out a very meek inaudible sound. I even tried setting up Audyssey to see if there is any problem. while setup, during the center sweep, the volume is too low compared to my Front LR. The audyssey setup mic doesnt pick that up and gives out result as "Center Channel Not found"

It seems like Power Amp has the issue for center channel. Decided to show it in authorized service center but they do not tell us what exactly the issue is in terms of technical.

Why not explore the pre owned market and pick something up within a set budget with the latest formats? I keep changing my AVR every 3-5 years depending on functional, formats being used and ofcourse budget.

Three options.

1. Show it to a service center and get it repaired.
2. Disconnect center channel speaker and set it to No or whatever the brand calls it. This will route the Center channel signals to the Front channels. Enjoy the receiver till the next failure.
3. Sell it as is, use as a stereo amp, etc.

Presently I'm already following your 2nd point. I set up without center channel using 2.1.2 (front+left + SR+SL +SUBWOOFER). However, having center channel with absolute 5.1 gives thrill with clear dialogues. I also watch youtube songs. in some songs, there will be beats punch coming from only centre channel which will be missing now. Let me see if my budget allows later then I'm planning to take Denon x1800 (7.2 Channel) as an upgrade. An AVR should run without problems for atleast 8 years as it is basically designed to last for atleast 10 years. I donno why these expensive AVRs turns faulty so early. Spare parts are not easily available in India.

There are local made 7.1 amplifiers made available in market nowadays. If there is any fault they can be easily repaired with very less expense as spare parts available easily. They deliver only Dolby audio & DTS basic flavours though (not so many flavours as the branded AVR does). Moreover, there is only ARC and no multiple HDMI inputs to connect devices like Blue ray player, PC & Firestick simultaneously. That's where I dropped my thinking from taking local made as I use my PC & Firestick connected to my AVR for multipurpose.

Anyways thanks for your response!

Okay that's good then. I used to use my HT in 4.1 mode by choice. Prefered No centre channel as my room was an regular shaped room and a phantom center sounded better.

Can you elaborate what to take?

Why not look at Marantz / Denon AVR models? There are ample 7.1 and even 5.1 models available. Depending on your budget see what is available. Before contacting the seller, visit the brand online website to understand the model better and if its functionality and connectivity caters to your use /need. Alos download the Owners Manual to check on supplied accessories, basic operations & performance. Youtube would also have reviews available. This is the level of research required before you engage with the seller.

Contact the seller for demo / audition face to face and check performance and physical condition. Negotiate and close the deal if you are sure / convinced.

All the best!
