Hi,
I m planning to buy a new console. I like to buy XBOX360 than PS3. I heard that XBOX360 service centre are not present in chennai. I m in chennai. Please let me know if there are any microsoft authorized centre in chennai. Otherwise I need to buy PS3. only

You should buy the PS3 as it has many more features and advantages over the Xbox 360.
Also please mention if you will be using motion gaming?(Move in case of PS3 and kinect in case of the Xbox 360)
I myself am planning to buy one of these 2 and hence have done a lot of research and watched a lot of videos on youtube.I suggest even you should watch the PS3 vs Xbox 360 videos on youtube. It will help you in making a decision.
:)

What kind of games do you play? Is it only for gaming or do you plan to have an entertainment center?

I have both Wii and PS3... I play games mostly on my PC though!

Wii is more for fitness (with Wii Fit) and also group/family games. PS3 is a lot better for gaming and also excellent for watching Blu-ray movies and also has an excellent DAC for music.

I'd recommend either Wii or PS3 depending on your need. XBOX (though I don't have it) is not as much fun as the Wii nor does it have as many features as the PS3.

A gaming PC can also be considered. I play FPS games the most and they are the most fun on the PC (huge advantage with the mouse).

If you are 35+, never played serious games in your life and are buying a console for your family (meaning wife, kids, parents and your dog can also play) - then I would suggest the WII - although its not sold in India.

For casual gaming nothing beats Wii since its fun to play.

If you want to play serious adult games and care about 1080P and all that, including playing DVDs and Blu-rays - then stay away from WII.

I only have the WII and have played XBOX and PS3 at friends place - again ony time pass games - nothing serious - and nothing comes close to WII. Also WII since its at the end of its product cycle is cheaper and its also hackable - meaning you can download games for free and play it. Since its not legally sold in India - I dont see it as a crime to download games - ignoring a country of 1.2 billion is a crime and Nintendo has to pay for it:yahoo:

which features ?

1. For starters its a Blu-ray player.
2. It has an excellent DAC (in the range of the VDAC II).
3. Specs & h/w (processor) are better in PS3.
4. Online services are free in PlayStation Network... you get lots of games and content for free... whereas with XBOX you have to pay premium subscription.
5. PS3 has more storage.
6. PS3 has inbuilt WiFi. XBOX you need to buy a wireless network adapter at an additional $70-$80.

Probably lots more... but I went with PS3 mainly for the Blu-ray player.

Thanks mate. Agree blu ray is a big plus.
btw Xbox comes with inbuilt wireless since about 2 years now.
However not sure about the usefulness/ability of the DAC and h/w specs and "free" content :)

Anyway dont want to hijack OP's thread. Let him make the best choice.

btw have you experienced the kinnect yet?

I have played the Kinect at a friends place. He has never seen or experienced the Wii and is full of praise for the Kinect. I played it only for an hour - like the dart game, bowling...etc and some how I feel for these kind of games where in real life you actually throw something - Wii is much better. Imagining you have a bowling ball or a dart is not something I was impressed with when you can actually have it in hand in the WII.

No I have not. Would like to see how it compares with the Wii Fit + Balance Board. For pure enjoyment Wii gets my vote... even above PS3... and I've not played the XBOX much. I still play 90% of the games on the PC as I like FPS games and they are the best on PC. Even Halo was more enjoyable on the PC for me but now its only available on the XBOX. Miss the Master Chief...

I have used PS3 many times at my friend's home and my experience was damn good! I would suggest for PS3 over xbox-360.

hi , its better to buy PS3 w.r.t XBOX 360... reason behind
1. Blu-ray Player
2 . Single solution for your all home media player requirements (everything plays on it .. which doesn't you can use SHOWTIME app)
3 . You can crack it either by BLU USB stick ( almost 4000RS) or hard crack it (almost 1500 with 7 games but restricted to version 3.40)
4 Graphics are much better than any of console available right now...

Same time it depends upon what kind of TV you will going to connect ideally bigger is better (full HD off-course) to enjoy the whole stuff ..
In delhi you can get it crack from Gaffar @ karol bagh ..

did Nintendo "officially" launch it in India? Maybe I am out of touch. I have seen it on display in Reliance digital I think - I thought may be they were importing it on their own and selling it. Am I wrong?

Nintendo hasn't started its own showrooms in India as yet,but they are officially in India.I've read in the newspapers "Nintendo to launch wii in India"
That was some years back. The conclusion is Nintendo is officially in India and you can buy its products from Croma,Alfa or as you said Reliance Digital.

Then its safe to assume its not an official launch. They are just importing and selling it. coz if its official they would also release ads - no one would launch a product and keep silent about it. Proof of the pudding is to look at the warranty of these consoles sold in India.

see below from flipkart..its a NTSC console - meaning they are just importing from US or Japan and selling it here as India is a PAL country. Also it only has 6 mths warranty - no "officially" launched product comes with that much less warranty

Nintendo Wii with Wii Sports Game | Gaming Console | Flipkart.com

The official distributor for nintendo was supposed to be samurai games but the deal got cancelled. This was way back in 2008.
Later, few retailers such as croma, reliance digital imported the consoles directly from Nintendo - Japan, which is listed as the international dealer for india in the nintendo parent site.
So, officially nintendo is still not in India.

i recently got a ps2 for kids. some major pain points are there, dont know whats applicable to p3.

1. backup games dont work. though this might be to curb piracy, so its ok.

2. all connectors are proprietary. e.g. it supports component output, you need to buy a different kind of sony cable. normal component out doesnt work. normal a/v cables also dont work. and of course their stuff costs an arm and a leg. con job.

3. the game pads are not usb but again proprietary, dont work with pc. pc ones dont work with ps2. con job.

4. You have to buy their pen drive. otherwise the intermediate game status cant be saved. you have to start game from beginning everytime. the cost for that piece of junk 8MB card (no typo, its mb not gb) is some 800 rupees. con job.

Overall, its a con job to extract more and more money from you. shame on you sony.

dont have any experience with others so dont know if they also do similar stuff.

^ ^ ^ ^
1. Same is applicable with PS3, unless you jailbreak, in which case you will void the warranty.

2. PS3 had HDMI output, in which case you just need to buy a regular HDMI cable. Normal AV cable is included with the PS3

3. PS3 has Dualshock3, which also doesn't work with a PC. Not a con job though.

4. PS3 comes with a hard drive in-built. Different prices for different capacities.

Just a quick question, why did you go in for a PS2? The PS3 is an HD console, and now with recent price cuts, should be reasonable enough to buy. Plus, it is one of the best blu-ray players around (region-coded though). Game pricing is still high, especially for new games.

If you paid 5K or less then it may have made some sense. Any amount more than 5K for PS2 I would say in todays world makes no sense. This is of course assuming one has access to get stuff from abroad as a new Wii is available for less than 10K and you can easily get a second hand one for less than 5K (most people want to graduate to Wii U getting launched in a month or two). In UK they were selling it around 35 pounds I think for a second hand Wii. Since it has limited moving parts - if you play from your pen drive - almost nil - hence it should last a longer time

So sorry to hear about your experience. Better luck next time

i have a bluray player already, dont do gaming. its for my 7 year old. he doesnt give a damn about hd:). ps3 still costs more than twice that. can someone tell me where can i jailbreak the ps2 in bangalore.
