Hi,

I have 29" Samsung CRT TV and want to buy new 40" or above tv (higher the better). I was planning to go on a vacation to Bangkok and was to buy the TV from there. But due to some reason that trip is put on hold. In the budget of 45-50K I could have got good LED TV from Thailand.

Though the trip is on hold, but I need the Tv within one month. My budget remains the same.

Main thing I am looking in TV is full HD with good sound and picture quality ( I am ok with plasma as well....though I am curious to know why so many people in this forum are ga ga over plasma when I was made to belive in other forums that plasmas are dead and one should go in for LCD/LED which have better technology, energy efficiency and design!) .

It should work for atleast 6-7 years.

Please advise...

Any advise/ suggestion please...

For Plasma, following should come in your budget:

Panasonic (2012) - 42XT50 (comes with free HT now), 42X50
Samsung - 43E400/450, 43E470, 43E490 (free BDP)
LG - 42PA4520

Check out the respective websites for these models and also visit the brand showrooms and buy the one that you like the most...

At that budget, you may get an LED Samsung 5 Series or Sony EX520 in 32" range. There is no point going for LCD unless this TV is meant for casual watching in the spare bedroom.

You can get an HD-Ready 43" plasma for that price (Samsung 4 Series). Panasonic 42X50 is also possible by stretching slight (again HD-Ready).

You have not mentioned what you will be watching mainly. For watching HD-DTH/Cable, an HD-Ready TV is good enough. Add to that, at 42" or less and viewing distance 8+ feet, there is no discernible difference between HD-Ready and FHD. FHD makes a difference when watching true HD/1080p stuff via BD.

But you should visit various showroom and check for yourself. I purchased 50ST50D today.

I am looking for a primary TV 42" or above to be setup in main room. My parents and grandparents will be mainly watching daily soaps and I will be watching movies. TV will be used on average 6-7 hours per day. I am planning to buy HD setup box after purchasing the TV.

Is it advisable to invest in plasma TVs?

Always go for the biggest screen size your budget can accommodate........if you have a choice of 42 plasma over 32 LED, then for sure go for plasma. SD would also look better on plasma. Depending on budget Panasonic X50/XT50 would be perfect for your requirement.

+1 for this. There are options available in Samsung & LG as well but going with Panasonic will be suggested. 42XT50 is coming with free HT these days...

Does any one know some shopkeeper in Garfar Mrk ( or any other greay mrk in Delhi/Noida) who can be trusted & give TV at best possible price?

One of the fellow members amprasad has just bought 50XT50 and feels SD looks horrible there... dont know if its with plasma thing or 50" size...
