Hi Krishna,
Based on what I have read through, and a recent listening (not audition) to a stereo setup some 4 or 5 weeks back, I feel that for 2-channel music, a decent CD player, especially when connected with the analog input, fares well than a DVD player. Adding a stereo amp or high-end DAC adds more quality to the music.
We have a lot of 2-channel gurus here, to name a few, thevortex, venkatcr (all rounder), suri, et al., who can explain the technical differences between CD and DVD players.
AFAIK, the DAC and decoders seem to be superior or more suitably placed in a CD player for 2 channel music than in a DVD player. Also, looks like the laser assembly in a DVD player is a little complicated, like twin-laser assembly and emphasis is given to video and surround decoding abilities than for stereo. But certains DVD player, especially those high-end players like oppo do seem to do justice to stereo music as well, but you know how much they cost.
Simply put, the simple circuitary, good or dedicated DAC and decoders in a CD player makes it good for stereo music.
Cheers!
