Hi,

This is khan am going to bangkok next week for holiday trip and am planing to buy a SAMSUNG 3D LED 46F6400 in bangkok could you please suggest me what are the precautions to be taken before buying a product and what are the formalities have to be followed and could you please explain step by step process and what are the additional charges to be made on the tv other than TV Cost to brought the tv to chennai.

Please explain clearly

[*]Where i have to buy and best shop with valid bills in bangkok.
[*]TV with International warranty valid in india or not.
[*]What is smart card or VAT return, where i have to submit the vat return form.
[*]what are the customs charges and additional charges charged at thai airport and chennai airport and what is the maximum baggage allowance for each person (THAI AIRWAYS).

Could you please illustrate with an example.

Thanks in advance for replying me.

well you can buy the tv from a reputed shops in indira mkt, pratunam, malls in siam area they will check the tv in front of you and repack it, i am not sure you get warranty for TVs purchased from thailand in India, please keep a xerox copy of the bill as you will have to submit the original bill with the vat refund form given by the seller at the VAT refund counter at the airport.

thai customs do not charge any fees

airlines charge extra fees for bulky items ( check with thai airlines for charges),
indian customs will ask for the bill to asses the value and charge customs duty on the TV. please check the grey mkt prices for the same tv in chennai and try to workout the prices from the thai websites and if the difference is less than 10 thousand rupees pls dont waste your time. its not worth the hassle.

Hey,

Sorry to inform you but the Government of India has changed the rules for importing television. Now anyone importing TV, irrespective of the cost will have to pay the customs duty. So you will end up paying much more than what it would cost in india. I suggest you buy it from India only.

Starting August 26, the government has decided to levy 36% customs duty on LCD and LED television sets that passengers bring along with them as part of the duty-free baggage. According to a notification, the revenue department has decided to "disallow import of flat panel (LCD/LED/Plasma) television as part of free baggage allowance".

Nevertheless, all the best, do let us know how much it costed you finally.

Just for idea sake:

Bangkok avg. market price of Samsung UA46F6400DK (DVB-T2) = THB 23,000
Transportation costs = THB 1,000
THB-INR exchange rate 0.5 : 1.0 (1 Thai Baht equivalent to 2 Indian Rupees)
Price before duty in Indian Rupees = INR 48,000
Customs Duty 36% = INR 17,280
Total price after duty paid = INR 65,280
Transportation from airport to home = INR 2,000
TOTAL PRICE = INR 67,280.

Samsung LCD/LED/Plasma in Thailand carry local warranty of 1 Year (not worldwide). Is there a big price difference of this set in India?

Local market price with cash bill (without VAT) is still worthwhile than having to go through the VAT Refund for Tourists in Suvarnabhummi Airport as it is difficult to find where the counters are. The officials will probably guide you wrongly and there are chances that you will miss the refund.

Happy shopping and happy viewing.
