Hi,
I have bought a samsung PS43D490 plasma TV.
I am not planning to buy any budget home theatre due to financial constraints.so planning to make use of the existing 5.1 speakers i have connected to my PC.

Speakers: Altec lensing 251 (5.1 speakers)
Motherboard: Asus has SPDIF output/digital out as per the manual.
Graphics card: Nvidia GTS250 512MB which has HDMI port.
Media player : Measy 1080 player with digital out and RGA.

How to connect the HDTV to output sound in the altec lensing speakers for surround effect?
Both PC and Tv are located close to each other.
Please do help me.

I have a similar set up and I use case 1 given below:

Case 1: If your tv has RAC (return audio channel) support then all you need to do is to connect your HDMI OUT of NVIDIA card to tv HDMI IN and configure the audio setup in your PC audio control panel to give audio out through 5.1 .

In the NVIDIA control panel of graphic card for audio setup choose either "any that is available"" in audio properties or choose the (default) audio device (e.g. realtech) . Obviously you need to connect the speakers to your motherboards audio out. I am presuming that you have provision for 5.1 out in your motherboard (orange, black, gray coloured rca out)

Case 2: In case you dont have RAC in your tv (typically it is available on HDMI 1 port), then you would need to connect DVI out from your graphic card to connect to the tv and the rest of the setup will remain the same.

Case 3: This is not a preferable method but if the first two don't work and you have a SPDIF IN in your speakers then

Connect

Graphic card HDMI out --> TV HDMI IN --> TV Optical (SPDIF) Out --> Speakers Optical IN

Hope that helps.

Don't forget to mute the internal speakers of your tv.

Hi,
Thanks for your detailed explanation.
I am not sure about this RAC and whether its available in my TV or not.
let me try following whatever you have suggested.(I am yet to get the TV shipped).

1.My PC has two HDMI out now,One is from Nvidia GTS250 and other from motherboard.
2.I am not sure if GTS250 has an Audio out.
As of now my 5.1 speakers are connected to green, black and pink connectors in the motherboard for 5.1 sound.
And it also has HDMI out and digital out.

Which HDMI should i connect to the TV?
if i connect HDMI of GTS250,will i be able to get sound output from PC speakers considering that its connected to the motherboard soundcard?

Sorry i am new to all this.hence a bit clueless.

You should definitely use the graphic card out as it would process the video signal better. The video cards does not have sound out but the relatively newer ones do pass on the sound through HDMI out, ARC would return that sound back to the computer which would then output it through the sound (motherboard) card. If there is no ARC then you should go with case 2, where you should pass on the video processed by the card to the tv so
that only the video goes out.
Best of luck.
