hi,

Currently I am using my Polk Audio TSi100 speakers with Astonia SC300 Amplifier. Amplifier is connected to my pc (Motherboard Asus Maximus V Gene).

Whenever I listen "Bass I love you" song (Bassotronics - Bass I Love You [HD] - YouTube) at high volume (or medium level), I noticed distortion, speakers just cant handle some part of the song. I don't know the exact word (sorry I am kind a noob in sound department). I don't experience such distortion in any other songs even at very high volume.

Do you guys think is it because of my amp or speaker. I am planning to buy good stereo amp and also subwoofer. Please suggest me the good amp in 20K to 30K budget which can support subwoofer too (I don't know whether it is possible or not). Do I need to buy the dedicated sound card for my pc to increase the quality of sound?

Please help me

Regards

It can be because of the track you played and speakers simply cant handle very low frequencies due to its driver size/speaker frequency response.

I think it is because of the under-powered amp....

If you plan to upgrade to Stereo Receiver (2.1), you can take a look @ Onkyo TX 8020 / Onkyo TX 8030.... It has pre-outs for subwoofer.....

Please read this... seems thats the cause of distortion

Bass, I Love You is a popular bass test by Bassotronics. It is about 3 minutes and 48 seconds (3:48) long. Bass, I Love You begins by two bars of the piano playing solo, then the synthesized bass track begins playing with the repeating piano riff, which continues throughout the entire track. The bass remains at a relatively constant frequency, except for between each bar, at which time there is a sub-audible frequency note under 10 Hz.

Thanks for your response.

After a much research I think Marantz SR 4023 will be the safe bet for me. It got high per channel output and subwoofer out connection. In future I am planning to buy good floorstanding speaker (Boston Acoustics A 360,
Boston Acoustics A 250 or Polk Audio TSI500) and I think this amp got adequate power to drive them.

Do I need to buy DAC?? PC will be the only source of music. If yes suggest me one. Marantz PM6005 has the inbuilt DAC. But It got low per channel output. Am I right in thinking??

@ jmascreen @ spirovious : is it some kind of frequency that my speaker can't handle regardless of what amp I am using?

@ elangoas : hi, I searched a lot but I was unable to find the pricing onkyo. If you could just link me to the site, that would be great.

Looking for your valuable advise.

Regards

If your PC has a soundcard that can output over Co-axial / Optical output, then a DAC + Stereo amplifier is good... But that will shoot your budget....

If you can't extend your budget then a stereo amplifier with Digital inputs are good...

Here is the link for Onkyo TX 8020 Onkyo | TX-8020

Here is the Onkyo contact webpage link Onkyo India You can check the latest prices with them... Approx should be 25K....

Hi,

After a much consideration, research and taking the advise from Spirovious, last Saturday I bought Wharfedale 10.2 speakers from Sound out - Heera Panna.

I thought Its better to change the speaker rather than amp. I have not received the speaker yet. I also ordered stand from Magma.

First I will check whether my current Astonia SC300 amp can drive the speaker or not. If not I will buy the amp too.

Do you guys think my current amp is powerful enough to drive these speaker? If no then please suggest the good amp for the speakers. I have short listed Yamaha As500 and Marantz PM6004 or PM6005. I am also fine with used amp but in good condition.

there is a marantz 8003 on sale on the forum.

try to audition the combo if you can in Mumbai.

normally they say marantz - wharf go well together.

but YMMV..

Hi rhythm

You need to ensure that both amp + speakers impedance is more or less the same. It is ok if the impedance of the speakers is little more than the amp...this is important from an overload / heating factor......it seems that the speakers would work to some extent but you would not be able to blast the full potential as the amp power would fall a bit short...

Diamond 10.2 | Wharfedale Hi-Fi

In terms of the infamous Bass I love you song....I tried the same on my system which is a Marantz NR1402 + Boston Acoustics Soundware XS 5.1.....it has worked well without any hiccups....this is my experience....There could be other forum members who may have a different experience...

Since the speakers have a 6 ohms load, you may want to explore possible amps which are of the same load and atleast 50w RMS per channel.....Marantz amps would work well...you may also want to check out some Norge models....

hi Guys,

I bought Yamaha AS500 amp to drive Wharfedale 10.2 speakers. I have also attached the photo :)

Can some body help me

1. what is the proper burn in time for these speakers. (because even when the volume control is at the halfway or 12:00 o'clock position its not loud. But I currently playing them at 9 or 10 o'clock position)
2. Does amp required burn in time too.
3. Whenever I switch on , amp makes one click sound is it normal.
