To add fury to this fire of Gray market TV purchace I will mention the following.
A new SONY 55" EX720 with two 3D glasses free is costing around Rs. 1,50,000/- after discounts though the MRP is higher.
Whereas in Gray market like Burma Buzar the same thing is costing as of yesterday 1 to 1.05 Lakhs. So when you have a difference of this value it always gives you cushioning for carrying out service in case any thing fails with in the 12 months period of ownership. After 12 months all are same. ( It is almost taking care of, worst case of changing the LCD panel)
Who ever goes abroad comes at the least with a 32" TV with them for saving cost. With what confidence they bring it? it is the same confidence they can have while buying from gray market too.
Yes there are some limitations with regard to Brands and Models, but we have to remember even these gray market guys also careful enough to select their models with regards to features and popularity (which they get to know from the consumers).
A main point in my view with regard to buying big size screens like 46, 55 which involves close to a lakh it is better to buy from gray market as we can make the payment once the box is opened in front of us and the TV is switched on. Whereas when we buy it and ship it there is phenominal risk of breakge as our TV to become the only one in shipment and subject improper stacking etc.,
