I bought a Samsung LED TV 46 inch, just about 2 years ago.
These TV's don't come cheap.
The last two weeks, the TV Display started showing horizontal lines, then many more lines, now 1/3rd TV has a patch. Samsund technician said Panel problem, need to be repaired-Whopping Rs 40,000.
Does a company of samsung repute make such poor quality TV's, and do their policy flog customers unfairly.
I will like to hear from others, who experienced such problems and high handedness, and what can be done. Raghu

you deserve it.. next time buy sony only as hifivision members recommended numerous timesssssss

I hope you don't really mean it. Nobody in their right mind would say what you just did. If you cannot say something good about someone, the decent thing would be to keep silent.

Anyway coming to the topic at hand raised by the OP, all panels have a finite lifetime (average 10000-20000 hours depending on technology and manufacturing process) and it seems that the one in your TV was way below average. While not much can be done apart from replacing the panel/TV, you could somewhat be safer by purchasing extended warranty/insurance for things costing more than 50k.

Alternately, you could search on the web for any lower priced compatible panels (not necessarily Samsung) and prolong the TV life by a 2-3 years.

I second u bro...thats the best he can do

Thanks for the response. Surely not I will change at the panel. Obviously there is no guarantee either on change, may be another year.

When u pay so high fr a product u expect excellent quality and a longer view time, say 7-8 years. Ywo year is frustratingly poor. There has to be a company ownership.

I have a range of Samsung and Apple products. There is a vast difference in their approach.

Who preserves bill copies these days. Online records shd give all details to mfr thru their sell network.

Quality massive letdown. I hope Samsung responds responsibly, if there are alert to valued customer tweets.

Extended warranties is a good suggestion, i agree, under these situations.

Hi Raghupathy,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Saddest part is that i too am facing the same problem. I had bought the Samsung 46" 3D LED TV just 2.5 yrs back and since the last couple of days i am noticing vertical lines along the display panel.

Even i am surprised that a company like Samsung makes such sub standard products. I was not aware of HiFiVision earlier and hence could not research more about what TV to buy. I did refer this site before purchasing my home theater.

Coming back to the topic, what are you intending to do Mr. Raghupathy? replace the panel or go for a new TV? I would be traveling out of country in a few weeks and hence need to decide whether i should change the panel, in case the technician suggests so, or should leave it as it is and come back and then check. I would prefer selling the TV in as is state and then come back and buy a new one..

Confused...Need suggestions guys. Please help.

Thanks,
Gokul

Does sony work for 20years???? Seeing the failure of many tvs within 4-5 yrs hard to believe that sony works so well....btw which tv do you own? How many years has it lasted??? I do believe that the old tvs CRT ones worked longer but in todays world of leds and lcds difficult to believe.....

Really bad... Have been seeing many thread here very recently about various manufactures having similar problems.... For how much did you buy the TV ? 40K is too much for panel replacement...

Extended warranty would have saved you in this situation...

Sony is no exception to that... One of my friend who had Sony 26 inches LCD TV, it had similar problems juz on the last day of warranty.....Luckily my friend had a choice to choose from a new TV (or) take depreciated value of the TV... So he took the depreciated value & bought LG :ohyeah:

i ve/had similar kinda experience. earlier i had a 46D series LED TV which was a 2010 model. It got faulty (in warranty period) & then they replaced it with 46ES6200 - 2012 model. I spent around 7700 for extended warranty for 1 year for the new set. after few months it faced one or the other issue. panel was replaced 4 times (in average once in 1.5 -2 months) & board for once. I fought with them when i faced the problem 4th time that since they replaced panel for 3 times already, instead they give a new model 2013 model but they had to say they cant replace tv when its under extended warranty & finally they replaced the panel only for fourth time. The warranty got expired on jan 2014 & i approached them for renewal. They rejected it with reason that once extended warranty is purchased it cannot be purchased/renew again & it is against their policy. I fought with them, talked to the most senior guys & managed to get extended warranty again for next 2 years & this time i paid 4K for 2 years (prices slashed for ext warranty). These samsung led stuff are not stable at all & you must think to get extended warranty for it.

Panel issues being prevalent across the brands/models, was there any instance before where the customer took the case to the consumer court ?

Looking at the issues raised regarding the panel failure, the probability of failure seems to be at an unacceptable level in the last 3 to 4 years. One or two panels going wrong is okay, but we see many people reporting this issue. This is a classic case of ignoring the quality of the manufacturing process at the cost of the customers. In that context, I think the panel issues look to be a very genuine case for pursuing the matter further in the consumer courts. Time has come to tame the arrogance of all these BRANDS.

Hi Raghu,

My tv also had the same issue, but after 4 yr's and theres no warranty for the replaced plane (according to the samsung technician). So it may work for a day or for a week or for a month etc.... So no point in replacing the panel. It's sad, but yeah you need to buy another TV.

cheers.

90K is huge money & 40K to replace the panel there in no guarantee that it will work fine for atleast next 2 yrs...

Is there a buy back option by Samsung where they give you a depreciated value for the TV ?

I guess there is no depreciation value for TV's, if the panel is gone, in a buy back no matter how old your tv is, one will not get more than 6K. In my case I bargained and got a grand more. And more over when the samsung employee came to take the TV from my place, he just takes the TV with the box and throws it into his cargo vehicle, and when I told him to be careful cause it may break, he say he doesn't care cause anyways the company is going to break open the unit. So it's a total crap after the panel is gone.

cheers.

I have samsung 32 inch lcd tv in my chennai home.Exactly after one year warranty tv broke down.No picture black screen.Service center guys repaired the tv with Rs.3500 bill with one month warranty , but the tv is still running with out any problem after that.So they will tell one month warranty , but the issue will be solved in my opinion. But 40k is too much for a repair.Better to get depreciated value from samsung for the old tv and buy a new tv.Try to exchange with them.

I hope yours is a LCD-CCFL TV... I think CCFL bakclight TV's are less expensive to repair than the LED back-lit TV's of today....
