Poor quality Samsung LED TV

Very recently i met my cousin at his house. I saw his Sammy 40" which he say's he bought for apprx 42k or so. This is close to 2yrs. Couple of months back he got a horizontal line at the top of the screen. The service guy came in and said a panel replacement with 22K would get it fine. My cousin refused saying he will keep the product until it dies down totally.
Its unfortunate we are left with only these LCD/LED's/Plasma and for past 1year or so, we see/hear lot of such scenarios. The quality has gone down drastically. The customers are fleeced and fooled. I hope there is some technology which is as good as CRT that can withstand more than 10yrs!

Ya may be i'm not sure.

An other friend of mine had Sony LCD TV - CCFL backlight.... it was around 3 yrs old... Suddenly the images looked faded out.... So service center reaplced the internal CFL tubes i belive & he also paid around 3.5K and the TV is working fine now...

Even my Sony LCD is CCFL backlight... So i hope i wouldn't have to spend much juz in case anything goes wrong....

That is gr8 to hear. Then y these gr8 giants not implementing the same tech for led tvs also. They want to us to buy every 3 year a new tv.So that they can eat away all our hard earned money.

I have samsung 32 inch lcd tv in my chennai home.Exactly after one year warranty tv broke down.No picture black screen.Service center guys repaired the tv with Rs.3500 bill with one month warranty , but the tv is still running with out any problem after that......

PCB issues, internal connection issues, etc can be taken a chance and repaired under what ever warranty is available, i'm more specific here to panel issues. In latter case it's not worth taking the risk. Disposing off on a buy back offer is the best option.

cheers.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons. In today's world if everybody wants to keep a TV for 10+ yrs , I guess the TV companies will need file for bankruptcy and close down.

Few reasons (after reading many articles) which i think they moved to LED back-light are

* individually controlled lighting.. More contrast.
* Slim profile... CCFL TV were like the size of Lifebouy soap
* Power saving advantage.. Almost half than CCFL for same screen size...
* cost saving advantge for shipping

I wish "Invisible" could be made really "INVISIBLE" :(, he seems to make immature and stupid comments only and does not contribute anything tangible to our forum.

All panels irrespective of company, brand, type, make and size have as I have said many times have "built in obsolescence". They are specifically meant to last only a couple of years or so.

So best thing is to cut your losses, take the buy in and buy another panel with a 3 year warranty and hope for the best.

Can somebody guide me on going to the Consumer court.

Today one Mr Mukesh from SDamsung Gurgaon called up and said that you have tp pay Rs 40,000 for the TV Panel as it has gone defective (in less than 2 years for a TV costing Rs 90,000).

I asked for the email and contact details of the MD and President of Samsung, and he said clearly that I cannot give you the contact details nor will I escalate the complaint further.

Pls share experiences of the Consumer court as well.

I strongly would advise people to relate to such experiences before they decide to buy a Samsung product.

Did you try the "Email to CEO's Office"? (in their website)
Or you can mail to bdpark (President/MD of samsung india)
Check your inbox for email id i sent. But don't expect a timely reply. Neverthless pen all your efforts/disappointments (preferrably chronological order) to them. Put them in detail.

One general mail you may want to put through - [email protected] (if you had not done it before)

Taking on the consumer route is fine. But expect delays. Afterall we are in our lovable country! Keep all your documents/proofs/phone-calls details ready and approach the consumer forum in your city. Or you may want to give a call to Akosha (mumbai) to check on how to move forward. They help people in such consumer related stuff.

Edit: I just found that, i cannot message you. Probably your posting count is less. An alternate (on how-to) of information passing is appreciable. (Any member let me know - how to message to a newbie in this forum?)

I faced a similar issue with my sony 32 inch LCD. Screen started bloating up. These are the things I did.
1. called up customer care. They informed that they will get back.
2. took images and emailed customer support.

No response for 1 & 2 for a week.
3. Went on facebook and posted the pics to their fb page quoting the compliant number from 1 and about the email.

Got a call back soon and the panel was replaced for free. paid transport charges.

Sony customer care did take care of my issue this time.

Was you tv under warranty?

...
Looking at the issues raised regarding the panel failure, the probability of failure seems to be at an unacceptabl One or two panels going wrong is okay, but we see many people reporting this issue. In that context, I think the panel issues look to be a very genuine case for pursuing the matter further in the consumer courts. Time has come to tame the arrogance of all these BRANDS.

While this is one side of the coin, TV companies would like to point out rising costs across the manufacturing chain as reasons why they innovate less and compromise more. Will falling sales guarantee quality? Not in a million years. They would rather wash their hands off the loss making division just like Sony did with the VAIO. Only brands which are trying to gain market share or trying to kill competition can offer vfm or quality to an extent. The established ones are interested only in making a quick buck off reputation achieved by years of hard work of the honest generations of past. Crass consumerism and attitudes like costlier is better from the average consumer also has contributed to the situation we have today

We all need to realize that this is sheer bullying. Samsung cannot just wash their hands off, when their expensive products conks off in just two years. Nobody expects free repair, but cost of Rs 40,000 on a TV costing Rs 90,000 is daylite robbery.

I had complained to their CEO thru their website, and their 'Customer experience " Senior executive flatly refuses to entertain. We are suckers to continue loyalty to Samsung -Sales of 20,000 Cr -Samsung India.
I surely am not taking it lying down!

Change the thread heading to something like "Dont buy samsung leds,it wont last for more than 2 year".So that potential buyers and samsung gets maximum attention.i Dont think you will get any help from Consumer court because product is out of warranty.

Raghupathy, I can understand your frustration but I think going to the consumer court is not going be of any help as the product is out of warranty and Samsung is willing to replace the panel at a cost.

Any mass produced TV no matter which brand or model can fail anytime, only the failure rate varies from model or model. No one knows the failure rate for each model except for the companies who make them, but it is said Samsung panels generally have a very acceptable failure rate. So when you invest in a TV you should always keep in mind that the panel can fail anytime and if its happens after warranty period you will have to pay roughly 50% of the cost of the TV for panel replacement .

The rates quoted by Samsung for the panel replacement are reasonable as its in line with what other brands quote for panel replacement. But I would strongly advice you to go in for a new TV with 3 year warranty or 1 year + extended warranty.
