Price Thread: Stabilizers:CVT, Servo, AVT

Just spoke to Vertex and got a quote of 12.5K for the 2KVA stab. I've been hearing very good things about Vertex. Do they have any equal competitors?

Also not sure if I should go for 1 or 2 KVA. Most of the time it would be
TV (LG 50'' plasma) + AVR (Yammy 463) + DVDP/Xtermer Pro + Sub
or
CDP + DAC/Tape Deck/TT + Phono + Amp (NAD 320 BEE)

I am not sure of their power ratings, will go home and check today.

Any suggestions?

2KVA is good enough even 3kva is only a 1000 Rs more... Ask him to customize with 6 outlet ports..... he normally gives 4 ....

Sorry!!!!Just a noob question :), since i cannot extend my wiring..If I am using the outlet port only to an dedicated external socket and then from that socket if i am connecting my equipment, whether it will serve the purpose??

I guess so, you can use the surge (4 or 6 socket with individual switches) infact you can turn off the power supply to the unneeded gear... :o I am using that way ...

Kittu!!
U r using one(1) socket of the servo stab to connect to an power socket(extension box type) which contains more sockets:Am I right, which will be connected by various hifi equipments??

Is it OK,,,anywhere it is answered/discussed by experts here.. any load problems for that particular socket in stab will be there if all the equipment will be switched on?

I am using exactly that way and vertex guy said no issues at all....

if the load is really 2kva, then the current will be 8.7A @230V and then you are drawing 8.7A from a socket rated 5A(i assume the individual sockets are 5A). socket might heatup and also the internal wiring to the 5A socket will have higher voltage drop

If the socket is a big 15A rated then it is ok and also if the current is much less

Hi Borg,

Whether Putting a 15A socket in Servo Stab and drawing power to multiple 5A rated switch will do? provided the equipments connected shall match the 5A rating !!<<<<somewhere written here..may be in ajay thread..sorry guys>>> Just repeat how to find/calculate the total power drawn by various equipment to select Stabilizer

Yes, the point is not to overload a single 5A socket with the entire equipments , this is from an electrical engg standpoint.

From audiophile pov, make sure the individual connections use good quality properly rated wire and use sockets that make good contact, the spring contacts like the one you see in surge suppressor strips may not have proper mating and then affect the dynamics as ajay found out recently also the individual connections are earthed properly

The spec of the equipment will have the data about the power ratings and amps drawn

So , I spoke to vertex, krykard & alpha. Prices are pretty same as published in this thread. And I am inclined to take Alpha from Mr Gopal.

All I need to do it first deposit (transfer) the money to Gopal's account and after that the stabilizer will be shipped from Chennai to Hyderabad ( My town). Is this how it works ? Any one who got from Alpha , pls confirm how the payment process works. And how reliable is the Alpha Stab ?

Appreciate.

-Shash.

Saw the following festival offer from APC on their Home-UPS range. Value for money. valid till Nov 15th. (the article picked up from (courtesy of) The Hindu, dated 3rd Nov.

Thanks Rajan..I ordered 850VA for my home today. The dealer suggested to go for Exide battery rather. It is tubular and comes with 3 years warranty instead of 2 for APC. At Rs.1000 extra, i went for the exide.

Alpha Power Corporation does not exist anymore. Called up the number provided here and also got it from yellow pages. Looks like company was closed 2 years back.

Spoke to Vertex guys got the quote for 3 KVA Servo Stabiliser and isolation transformed. They are offering 10% discount, but the prices is marginally high than the ones quoted here.

Called up Krykard. Response wasnt great will try again.

In the meantime, i spoke to other guy Perfect Systems near guindy. Those guys installed inverter at my place. they are quoting 11K for 3 KVA Stab. They said they can match up Vertex specs. They are atleast 30% cheaper at 11K.

Shall be deciding soon in another week or so.

Price is attractive but you really have to see the components they use inside and the quality of the stabilizer... As of me I vote for Vertex in bangalore...

But it will be good to know some A 2 B comparision between the two... Since micron stuff is priced less than half rate compared with Vertex.

:)

Got a Micron one (2Kva) ..have seen them supplying for umpteen industrial stabilizers.
Only issue is that , I had to go to their factory in Peenya(bangalore) to get one.
Will update you all on its performance.

@pradeepkm, can you please post/send your feedback on the mircon servo stabilizer? I need one and would like to get your opinion. TIA.

They mentioned that they are a "ISO 9001:2000 Certificate" company. So I am hoping some quality standards will be there! Here is the product specification:

1 INPUT VOLTAGE RANGE : 170V-270V
2 OUTPUT VOLTAGE : 230V
3 OUTPUT SETTABILITY : 220V - 240V
4 OUTPUT REGULATION : 1 %
5 FREQUENCY : 47HZ - 53HZ
6 CORRECTION RATE : 35V / SEC
7 EFFICIENCY : > 98%
8 AMBIENT TEMPERATURE : 0-45C
9 VOLTMETERS TO READ INPUT/OUTPUT VOLTAGES
10 PLUG IN TYPE SOLID STATE PCB CARDS USED
11 PROTECTION : HIGH VOLTAGE CUT-OFF/ LOW VOLTAGE CUT-OFF / SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION / OVER LOAD SURGE PROTECTION.
12 INDICATIONS : INPUT ON / OUTPUT ON/ LOW CUT-OFF / HIGH CUT-OFF
13 MOUNTING : BUSHES PROVIDED
14 ENCLOSURE COLOR : SIEMENS GREY (RAL 7032)
15 STANDARD : AS PER 9815

Hi @rajeeb, do you have any further feedback from micronsystems. I am considering them, so any info will be helpful. TIA.

I too pumping this thread to get more information and feedback from recent buyers of Voltage Stabilizers (or) Servo Stabilizers for their HTs Please.

Please share details.... it will helpful to new members who have bought HTs recently... :-))

Just a thing to be kept in mind while buying the "Vertex" brand:

There are two companies, both making various types of voltage stabilizers (including the servo types), registered with the trade-mark of Vertex.

One of them is Chennai based, and members of this forum, especially those based in southern India, hold it in good stead. Its servo stabilizers sport that sophisticated "export" look with digital voltage meters etc. Their website is at:

Voltage Stabilizer, Servo Voltage Stabilizers, Isolation Transformers

The other company is Kolkata and Guwahati based, and is very popular in eastern and north-eastern India along with another brand, Sen & Pandit. The look of these stabilizers is quite "retro". But have no doubt about their quality - I have one 500 VA (relay based) automatic running since 1995 in my house with a large sized refrigerator, and it never posed a problem even in worst case scenarios. You can find their website at:

Vertex Stabilizers

Their website is again basic, and they post their latest prices on their website. It can be seen that their prices are higher than the Chennai Vertex. Most middle-class house holds owning a refrigerator in the east & north-east would sport a relay-based Kolkata Vertex stabilizer (with an analog voltage meter in its front) sitting on the top of their refrigerator. They have stabilizer models that can pull up the voltage right from 50 volts.

I am posting the pictures of the 2 KVA servo-stabilizers of both the Vertex' for comparision. Note how the logo, "Vertex," is written on each. The Kolkata / Guwahati one is built like a tank, albeit in utter disregard to the aesthetics.
