Purchased Q Acoustics 2000I - Need some settings

Congrats.Yamaha does not have Audyssey, but Parametric eq.
Keep all speakers as small, set the speaker distance accurately, run the test tone and adjust speaker levels accordingly.
Keep atleast 6 ft distance in front speakers.Center can be kept on slight lower levels.
Try these steps and let us know.

thanks musicbee and spirovious, I ran Yamaha's own YAPO mic for setting up which set all speakers as large and also also displayed an error called Phase error. Then i set speakers manually, all speakers as small and their distances as well. For levels, I set front and centre speakers on high levels and surround speakers on zero level. Is this setting okay? In Yamaha RX 373, I can't set the speaker levels in dbs.

The phase error could be due to reversing of the speaker cable polarity. Please recheck the speaker cable + ve and - ve connections. Of course YPAO may get it wrong sometimes.

Secondly the YPAO calibration sets the speaker levels to adjust for your room distortion at the listening point where the mic is placed. You should try to keep these settings and change them only if you do not like what you here.

Setting speaker distance manually is ok though YPAO normally gets it correctly. Setting the speakers to small and allowing the sub to play life is also ok.

thanks jagdish, that could be the reason. i have connected front and centre speakers using DAc cable which has +ve and -Ve markings however for surround speakers Iam using QED cables which doesn't have +ve and -ve markings. Do i need to use multimeter to find polarity? or just hit and trial method?

Even normal speaker cable will have different colors to differentiate - mine has copper and tin colors for +ve and - ve.. If you have a multimeter it will be simple to identify the same wire ends - mark them and connect.

Some cables have printing on one wire and none on the other strand which can be used to differentiate

Sometimes YAPO gives wrong reading.I too got center speaker polarity error.I like manual setting which works perfect for me.

Hi friend

Please follow below steps for setting up the speakers for optimal results

1. Although the speakers may be smaller in size, however treat them equally as the bigger bookshelf and make sure all the speakers ( except the center speaker ) are at ear level

2 use this calculator tool to get the best speaker position calculation

hunecke.de | Loudspeakers Calculator

3. Acoustic treatment is more important cos there are several speakers throwing sound in different direction ...

carpet, wall treatment etc

4. Use multiplier and fix the polarity issue fixed

5. Run the calibration test if its available/provided by the AVR

6. use quality cables to connect

All the very best, Happy Listening

Regards

Tanoj

Even I use the QED cables in my setup, and mine is black in color. You can find out the +/- with the help of slight continuous markings on one of the sides which I treat as + and the other side of the cable is plain which is -. Try this or I also did another simple solution which is take 2 pieces of paper and write + and - on each and using a cello tape wrap around the end of the cable for both the sides properly checking for the markings. Now as you run the cable at long distances this will help you in identifying the polarity easily.

Thanks

thanks manniraj, even my cable is black in color and no marking for positive and negative, only QED embossed on the cable. I can see continous marking on one side of the cable. i will try your method. I hope it will work.

Hi guys
Purchased Q Acoustics 2000i 5.1 speaker set from Harmonie Audio Kolkata. Iam in process of setting up same with my Yamaha 371. I need some help in setting up the speakers.

Congratulations @captainrizal!
How much did it cost you for 2020i? Did you get 15% off offer?

I paid Rs 83,000 including shipping. I didn't know about the discount. Is it for Q acoustic speakers??

That's an awesome price for this package. I always trusted whathifi reviews and this one got 5 star rating over there.
Congratulations again!

A couple of weeks back, I found that Harmony audio was giving 15% off on whole range of products. That's why I asked about the discount.

Anyway...don't bother too much about these discounts and enjoy your system to the fullest. If possible please post some snaps here. :)

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
