Hello,
I have an old SONY handycam( about 10 years old). The recording media was Digital-8 tapes.
Now these handycams have gone obsolete and mine too is not in working condition.
I want to re-capture some of my old-recordings from these tapes....but my problem is that the Handycam is not in working condition, as mentioned earlier.
I am in Chennai and I am wondering if there are any service available, who can capture the videos from my old Digital-8 tapes to a newer media. I suppose, these kind of services are called Digital transfer service?
Thanks a lot in advance...

It would be easier for you if someone in Chennai who has a digital 8 handycam could hand you his cam, so that you can get it transferred to a more suitable medium.

I am sure someone in our forum in chennai might have this handycam and would come forward to help.

Put it on the wanted section. I'm sure many will have old handycams lying around.
How many tapes do you have and old are they? How have they been stored? Can you see any white deposits on the tape itself?

Thank you ...all of you. I have the old Sony Handycam myself.... but I don't use it any longer.
I can re-play the tapes and re-capture them, as I did in the past.....but that is the tricky job, which I am not sure ...will work or not. But I shall give it a try. Also, I shall try and visit the location given by Shailenderb.... Stanley Videos and see, if they can do the job for me, using their equipment...ofcourse, I don't mind paying for that. Thanks a lot!:)

Does any one know of any such service in delhi/ noida?
my handycam still works, if you are ever in delhi, you can use it.
what is a good recorder to buy for recording the output from the handycam?

Thanks a lot all of you! Earlier, I used to connect my Sony handycam to my PC/laptop through a USB cable( provided with the camera)......or, much later through a fire-wire, which I purchased separately. I could capture the video playing on my handycam tape onto the PC/laptop with the help of either 'image-mixer', a software provided along with the handycam by Sony( output was mpeg-2 or .avi)............ or Windows Movie-maker, pre-installed in most Windows PCs/laptops.....where the output file was .wmv or .avi...................... the fire-wire helped achieve a higher resolution movie. Now, i feel too lazy to go through the harangue again.... and so I am contemplating taking the whole lot of my tapes to one of the Digital transfer service provider...pay them a fee and get the tapes re-captured again...... before it is too late.
