Please point me to a reasonable interior designer who specialises in wooden flooring, above average wardrobes and room makeover stuff. Please also mention your good experience if any.

Point me to brochures if any. My budget is like 5L+ for 3BHK and I live in Hyderabad.

Any reviews on HomeTown? Style Spa?

Where do you live in Hyderabad. I saw your review on the headphones.

Not too sure about Interior designers. There are quite a few in hyd.

Thanks

Hi Blasto,
An Interior Designer is a professional person who charges his fees to design any given premises. The fees is a fixed percentage on the total cost you have spent on renovating the premises. In some cases a amount can also be fixed.
I dont know about other places, but in Mumbai a exprienced designer wont charge less than 10% fees on total cost.

The designer after several alternates and discussion with the client will narrow down on certain layouts and design. It is then you can call few contractor and take competitive rates from them.

With no offence to you. In Mumbai to completely renovate a 3 BHK will cost around 25 Lac.

If you can send me your layout on AutoCAD then I can give you the right inputs free of cost.

I think he is now looking for an unreasonable interior designer... One who is unreasonably cheap!

Interior designers are a big rip-off.. be careful in whom you choose.. most will charge astronomical prices and sometimes will do what they think is classy..

I am not sure why you've got this idea, but interior designing may not be a costly affair. One of my friends had her house renovated (2BHK) almost completely (flooring + furniture + bathrooms) at around 8L. The look is a bit rich and hence 8L, we were initially planning for a 6.5L budget and it'd be possible except for a few choices that we made during the renovation.

Also, wooden flooring when I had last inquired about 3-4 yrs back was not costly at all and even maintenance free. I am assuming that the cost would have gone down before of more adoption happening now. Please find out the cost of the flooring by visiting some showrooms, they'd have samples and even actual layouts where you can walk over the flooring (or even drop heavy stuff :))

Sorry but 3BHK for 25L is just a bit too much unless you want to make it look lavish like a diamond merchant!

Wow.. You guys really scare me.

Wooden Flooring - I was talking about the laminate flooring only for bed rooms. The estimate in Hometown brochure came to ~40k for that for the base model. It could be 60-70k top is what I guessed.

Also these guys show "Before" and "After" photographs in their catelog for a single room for all inclusive price of 1-1.5L and the rooms look look bigger and in a single word "awesome" and you cannot believe the transformation happened in <1.5L. Refer catelog below. (Warning 5MB file)

Should I assume these are just marketing talk then?

Hi,

For the wooden flooring, you really dont need an interior designer you need to contact the wooden flooring companies and they will get it done in a day or two. Depending on your budget you can choose the quality of wooden flooring. They can be from 70 bucks a sq feet to 200 bucks.

Regards,
Sudhir

Some of the makeovers don't appear to be real, looks like photoshop stuff. Check page 12, the makeover office is artificial.

My suggestion...be innovative...choose a theme first which reflects your personality..then do the makeover yourself..you will get a million creative ideas rather than these boring standard designs.

In my case i am a strong believer to design my home myself after i have seen the success of designing my mini theatre.

I actually do not understand the concept of a designer where he gives limited time to us and moreover i have my own taste of making the things, who is he to decide how should i have my things.

At the most he may come only 4 times during the making interiors of full house, this is too less and he will give you only two or three designs to choose from, here too is a big issue, what may look nice on paper could look opposite in reality. Furthermore during the visits he may always be in a hurry to leave and very often we may have to adjust with his visit timings.

The concept of paying them 10 per cent or so on the cost, this is shocking, there should be a flat fee.

In today's time there is so much of ready made furniture available, we can get many options which can fit our interest therefore i think gone are the days when the carpenters are sitting on our head for months, imagine the pain we have to go through to have strangers in our house for such a stretched period by which they will lower gossip so much and the number of mobile calls they will get, our privacy is to the dogs and not to forget the risks attached. Among host of other problems, the leading issue will be to go every know and then to buy raw materials from shops.

hey blasto,

IMO.. HomeTown is costly.. and the material they use is sub-standard..
If you ask for better material, it costs even more..

try contacting a good carpenter.. design interiors of you own.. take his help on wardrobe and kitchen design.. carpenters give very practical ideas.. ultimately they are the one who implement the design.. home review few of their design.. they offer to review their previous work mostly..get the best raw material off your own..I can share my carpenter's number.. PM if interested..

I did the same for my small 2 BHK apartment.. you will easily save a about a lakh.. :clapping:

save money man.. :)

go for interior designer only if you don't have enough time for this or have a flexible budget..

Home town IS costly! That is what I have come to understand from enquiries. Material looks and feels good (If that is the measure for quality).

But the general consensus in this thread that a good interior designing for a 3BHK apartment would cost like 25L is wrong from what I have gathered.

Reviewed interiors of some apartments in the complex and it ranges from 3-8L for the entire house. Below are few houses I saw.

3L - Basic modular kitchen with chimney, Quality wood work in all bed rooms, False ceiling in few areas.

5-6L - Better modular kitchen with choice of granite, False ceiling with lighting in ALL rooms (believe me, including kitchen(!?!?)) , wooden flooring in bed rooms , decorative vertical wooden bars for seperating dining and living areas, fully made children bedroom with theme with two tier bed and ladder.

8L - Great modular kitchen, wall to wall decoration (texture painting/actual stone pellet textures etc) according to room theme, furniture like cots provided according to theme, and the usual stuff as above. Designed by architect.

My requirement will be in 4-4.5L range after looking at this stuff. Will update on anything significant.

As I am having an interior design business (Woods Interiors), let me give you an overall idea about the cost involved.

You can go through the pictures of some of my previous projects to have an idea and obviously not copyright protected:)

Picasa Web Albums - mail.WoodsInteriors

- First album (2BHK / Project cost : ~3.75L / Good quality block boards and ply used / glossy Deco painted kitchen cabinets / expense including all major kitchen electrical appliances and false ceilings)

- Second album (3BHK / Project cost : 3.1L / rubberwood kitchen cabinets / expense includes all kitchen elec appliances)

- Third album (2BHK / Project cost : 3L / Greenply / rubber wood kitchen and expense includes all accessories / false ceiling)

Home town will be a rip off, some time back one of my colleague went with them for 11L and to me it worth only 4-5L max but with mdf/particle boards (ply / block boards are the best, after wood) and now he is repenting.
