Hello folks,

I am looking to buy a 42 inch LED TV and need help to narrow down my choice. It does not have to be top of the range.

I initially saw Reliance Reconnect priced @38k but felt the color contrast was noticeably low. I then revised my budget upwards and narrowed down on Philips 42PLF5556 priced @ 52k in Reliance Digital, Bangalore.

The salesman suggested that Sony and Philips LED TVs are good. I was surprised because I thought in this segment LG/Samsung were leaders.

Is Philips a good choice for mid range?

Thanks for any feedback. This is a great forum full of consumer information.

Hi Dear,

I will not recommend Philips 42PLF5556 in this price tag. Try LG 42LV3500 @50K to 52K and 42LV3730 @52K to 54K with IPS panel and smart TV. Both are good and reliable products.

Any reason why you dont want to consider plasma? what would be your budget?

Mainly because my living room is very bright with large windows. I do not want to be blocking and using all curtains when watching TV.

Also I hear that plasma consumes more electricity and that it has a lower shelf life than LED, not sure how much of this is true.

Hi Dear,

Thanks for the suggestion. I personally liked LG 42LV3500 but it was priced at 58990 in Reliance - bit out of budget. Flipkart is selling it for @55,500.

I live in Bangalore. Can you please tell me where this TV is available for 52k? Another factor is that I will be opting for EMI and hence will be going to the stores for a TV.

Yes you are right regarding the price as per flipkart.

But yesterday i visit LG Shoppe here in Alwar (Rajasthan). LG 42LV3730 priced was @55999/- and after few discussions they are agree for giving some extra 2k to 2.5K discount. May be just becoz of LG new 2012 lineup about to launch on 4th of May and dealer also want to Liquidate his old model ASAP.

Please try at LG Shoppe may be they will offer you better deals.

Try on letsbuy, they are offering lower price than flipkart. Actually Im also planning to buy LG 42LV3730 or LG plasma, but dealer told me to wait till 25th April then he will comfirm me about new 2012 lineup.

Presently Im having Samsung 43D490 3D plasma, purchased in Feb'12 and worst experience this product but Samsung support is very good hats off for them and now waiting for my refund.

I need to pick 2 TVs actually (I am still using CRTs) and my washing machine after 9 years of service has finally died an overworked death.

I was initially thinking of phasing the 3 purchases over 3-4 months but now based on what I am reading here, maybe I can bargain well if I buy all 3 at the same time.

My preference will be to buy all 3 LG products, 42LV5500 for myself, 42LV3500 for the house and a top loading automatic washing machine.

Hi Lonesharim,

Welcome to Hifi, LG support is very good in pre-sale and after-sale, 42LV5500 is very nice LED Plus model. Try 42LV3730 instead of 42LV3500.

Hi Guys,

Toshiba is good, nice picture quality but delay panel response i.e. 16MS (in PS10/20) / 8MS (inTL20) & low DCR and video lagging.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
