Hi!
This is my first post. I was thinking of getting either a garrard 301 or technics sp-10.
Any thoughts anyone?

i basically need advice on whether to go for one of these two players and get it refurbished/restored or go for a new one.

i have probably posted in the wrong forum. sorry for that. still feeling my way around with the posting.

Hi Gxexha - Firstly welcome to HFV.

There are quite a few fellow members here with some vast knowledge on Record Players / Turntables.

Our member Reubensm has been some real great help for me.

I think you should definitely post this under the Phono/Turntables section. You will get a lot of advice and suggestions. Please also post your location in India.

Cheers and all the best...

Gxexha, you won't get new ones. If you buy a 301 here in India, you probably will get a piece which will sport some wear and tear and misalignments, and the minimum age will be 40 years. If you want the best sound out of it, you will need to send it to UK for professional restoration, which cybervinay on our forum has done. Likewise with SP10, but it may be less than 30 years old. If I were to do it today, I would buy a 401 from Audiograil in the UK on eBay. Relatively affordable and very highly regarded.

hey gerry,
i was infact planning to buy either in the uk or us and get it restored there. is it possible to get them in india at all for a reasonable price? thanks for the advice though. will check out audiograil.i was basically looking for a player which has the 78rpm option too. i have read good things about the thorens 124, technics sp-10 and the garrard 301/401. the day i posted this thread all 3 were being auctioned on ebay. i just thought maintenance wise technics might be less demanding.
