recording from tv to dvd

there are playing so many of the old school kung fu movies on cable tv (which i cannot get anywhere) that i would like to record them on to dvd.

so how is this done?

i think my laptop has a dvd rom which is cabable of recording. if so, is it possible to record from tv to laptop?

else dvd recorder? what are the options available in india?

appreciate any insights.

Long time back I had a Dazzle PCI Video Capture Card to record directly to Computer HDD in MPEG 2 format and than make DVDs out of that MPEG 2 File.

Later I purchased a Pioneer DVD Recorder with 160 GB HDD and record my TV programes there and make DVDs if I like them. You can do simple editing also to "cut" the commercials out.

since you have a laptop, buy a usb tv tuner card. Brands like pixelview are available for around 2k. These tv tuners come with a software interface where you can scan tv channels and schedule recordings. Buy a internal tv tuner for desktops.

PVR is handy & can play the files back without PC.
