Hi,
I just joined the search for perfect home theatre. Google search led me to this forum. I've read a few threads and agreed to a suggestion that I'll but a AVR and 2 speakers first. Then I'll slowly build up the collection.

Regarding the AVR, I've shortlisted Yamaha HTR 3066 or Yamaha RX V475. Would you suggest any alternative? 30k is my budget for AVR.

Now is the tricky part to choose speakers. I don't want to spend more than 15k for the pair. What speakers do you recommend in this budget. Is it Bose 201, Polk TSX 110b or is there any alternative.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Welcome to HFV.

Deciding on a pair of speakers all depends on your budget, room size and how much the AVR can throw in power for them. Remember the heart of any Home Theatre system is the Centre Speaker and Subwoofer and hence these need to be very good to enjoy the best movie experience.

There are a lot of brands, models of speakers., AVRs available which start from 20k onwards and can land in lakhs etc...it all depends how much quality, brand conscious etc you are.....

If I may suggest, Reliance Digital is offering a good system....Marantz NR 1504 AVR which is 5.1 with AirPlay + Boston Acoustics Soundware S series 5.1 speakers with 10 inch powered subwoofer and LG Blu Ray player. All this within 55 k.

The Marantz alone costs 46k, the Bostons around 30k and Blu Ray 4-5k. This is a steal deal and you can click on my user name for related posts.

Speakers can be Bookshelf, satellites or Towers, it all depends on what you want and appeals to you.

All the best...hope this helps....its your decision now and budget...let me know if you need any more help.....the key is to demo / audition as many systems as you can.

Thanks Efernand1.
The Marantz AVR has rated ppower of just 50W, which may prove insufficient if i later choose to upgrade my speakers. Also, i have a PS3, which I'll continue using as bluray/media player.

Primary purpose of speakers will be for 5.1 movies but 90% of time it'll be just linked to TV and STB to play HD channels.
If it helps i like Metallica! So the speakers suggested should have high dynamic range (i think I've used the right technical term) but at same time shouldn't be fatiguing for long listening.

My room size is small only 10x12 feet.

Hope I haven't set too many constraints!

Thought of Boston Acoustics 2.1 - but will settle for 2.0 currently..

Guys! Any suggestions?

Is Klipsch B20 available in Mumbai? What will be the indicative price?

Hi ssm30

I am using a Marantz AVR 1402 + Bostons in a 150sq foot room at 45% volume and the place vibrates with clear clean music, I listen to all kinds of music, be it rock, metal, instrumental, ballads, disco, House, etc....

Don't underestimate the Marantz, I am sure you can refer to reviews and threads in HFV for more details on Marantz performance...

End of the day, it depends on what appeals to you and your budget...

Thanks efernand1,

I will check out the Reliance Digital offer if its still on.. Will have a listen.. I am also attracted to these as they are small and will wont be too obtrusive in my small room.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.... RXV 475 is a good choice (Or) you may consider Pioneer AVR's 523/823 around same price in hifimart.com .....

If you don't want to spend more than 15K for speakers, you may consider Sonodyne Sonus 1501 BS approx 12K in hifimart.com after discount....

Polk TSx 110 & Cambridge Sx50 also come abt the same price of 15K...

Marantz + BA offer is no more available in Reliance Digital.

I am a bit confused now since movies will also be primary use for the speakers. I have a small room only 10x15.

I buy say Sonodyne Sonus 1501 or even a Boston Acoustics A26, I guess these will beautifully serve the purpose of stereo music.

Then for movies, if I then plan to add 1 centre + 2 surround + 1 Sub, won't these just be too much for such a small room?

Should I then go for BA XS 5.1 or Yamaha 299 or similar HTiB or build my system piece by piece starting with BA A26 or Sonodyne 1501? Will adding great speakers piece by piece even give me that added depth or clarity in sound in such a small room?

Guys, need your help! Thinking of upgrading my 5.1 set up. I've got yamaha rx 1030 hooked to dynaudio dm2/6
Not able to decide if I should make my set up a 7.1 by adding a floorstander or add a power amp (naim nap 100) to dyn dm 2/6! Plan to eventually do both, floorstanders and power amp................. But which shd be the first meaningful step forward??? Any suggestions????

a Sat+Sub system is good/great for movies.... But when it comes to music/movies from the same system, a BS + Sub combo will be better.....

component based systems will out-do the HTIB's ....

You can expand to 7.1 by adding a FS initially....Later you can add power amp for the FS.....

My opinion is to start with BA A26

Highly doubt if the Tannoy Revolution would match with the rest of your HT speakers.... haven't you considered FS from Dynaudio... This would be better choice... Because when you use them in HT, they would sound uniform...

Also for 70% movies, BS are better choice as the crossover will come in to effect in the AVR....

My only reason to go for FS was....... Hoping it would create a more expansive and enveloping sound field. Really happy with MA rxfx and heybrook sub doing a fine job. Not so sure it was the right choice of going with the option dyns - dm center and dm 2/6! Hence was planning to go in the direction of tannoy or B&W or MA! Eventually change / sell the dm center and replace with same make as the fs. Just retain the dm 2/6 to do the 7.1 duties.
Am I thinking in right direction on the long run or just wasting time and money????
