Review - RX V 481 + Taga 606 Se

Congrats on your purchase..

[*]Since i am using RPI, i was getting only PCM out put and not true DTS HD MA from AVR. If i purchase a blu ray player will it be able to play these file through its USB port and give DTS HD MA to AVR?

A basic PC with a graphics card capable of bit-streaming the HD Audio should do.

[*]Though I have the best downloaded blu ray files with DTS HD MA or Dolby True HD audio, I feel like I am not getting proper effects from the surrond channels. Feels like the surrond effect is missing (it is there but not very powerful sound from rears to surpirse me with surrond effects). Is there any settings in the AVR that can be done to get better surrond sound feel?

Hope the Pro FX installers completed the YPAO calibration..

As FM Spirovious pointed out, let the AVR play for sometime and then tweak it.

You can enter yamaha setup and the speaker setup. There you need to turn on "Test tone"
Then go to speaker level and adjust listening to test tone.

Thanks spirovious. Your suggestion was spot on. I could adjust the sound of rear speakers following the steps mentioned. Thanks a lot.

Hi Friends,
Which subwoofer should i ideally pare with this HT set up of mine? I am looking for sub within 20 k budget. Polk PSW 110 is one in my list. I read it is good for movies but not that good for music.

Adding below a comparison of Polk PSW 110 and Taga TSW 120 subwoofer.

Please guide me through in selecting the perfect sub. As i come from kochin, i dont have much options to audition and select. Your suggestions are what i depend on.

Polk psw110 the RMS power is 100W.
The dynamic power might be 200W.

Thanks sunilkm for the reply. Are you suggesting that Taga TSW 120 spec is better that Polk PSW 110? Pardon me for I am a little newbie to the whole HT world and sound power measurement units.

congrats nipun! nice AVR plus speakers & a good review. the suggestion of a rug can be useful. i have a large carpet laid out in my hall. additionally, thinking of installing a curtain or a sheet on the open space that leads to the dining room from the hall. y'day i even read that a large couch/sofaset also helps. the idea behind all these basically being to minimise reverberation as far as possible, in as much way as possible without marring the room/home aesthetics.

i had also initially thought of getting the Taga sub, but later thought of buying it from SMD Audio locally (12", 250W RMS, downfiring). there's a sub on sale here (though 8"):
