Sales Tax Increased from 4% to 14% in Tamilnadu

I happened to see this news in today's paper that the sales tax will increase from 4% to 14% with effect today on LED/LCD panels and parts...

So I really really wonder if I should hurry up and buy a 3D LED TV now itself.. Would this affect the price of TVs as I am currently thinking?

Well if VAT is increased then yes,you should buy it before they increase,unless of course you are planning to buy later on when the prices of lcd like every year fall.

But the current 10% increase means a 50k tv will cost approx 55k post new vat.

tv prices are half in bangkok, it is very sad
indian consumers are loaded with 100% tax and then on to high ST

True, but it is all their "free" TVs etc that we are left having to pay for.

With all the freebies the present dispensation is about to dole out, can we expect a multi-fold increase in tax rates in the coming years? If one free TV can cause this, how much of financial havoc would a free mixie, grinder, laptop, a cow, a goat, rice, pulses, bicycles, gold, and don't know what elese, can cause?

Personally, at this moment in time I'm happier to have the diesel price kept down, but for someone planning a big electronics purchase right now, this is going to be a big blow.
