Samsung 40D5500 LED TV Queries !!!

Hello Folks,

I have decided to buy Samsung 40D5500 LED TV for Diwali. I have few queries:

1. I want to know what panel this model use.

I have tried this method "during standby press Info/menu/mute/power" to go to Service Menu but it didn't work. Kindly let me know how to do the correct way.

2. Panels are available in three types : SPVA or AUO or CMO

Panel Quality --> SPVA > AUO > CMO

I also checked in the sticker, it said AC02 (AUO). Is this good quality panel?

3. Is this panel 60hz not 100 Hz as mentioned in US sites? Does it blur during fast motion scenes?

4. Is this screen light reflective as mentioned in some review sites?

5. What's the least price you have got? I got 55k quote (without gifts).

6. Samsung 40D5500 or Samsung 40D5900 ? Which one to go if I am not going to wall mount? Anything extra in 5900 apart from stand?

You need to try it again press the said buttons quickly.

AC02 is again a new code ,it may be a AMVA panel a few months before when i checked it had a panel that starts with AAxx (x being numbers).
So the only way to know for sure is by accessing the service menu.But then again you have to try this in the actual tv that you are buying.

The panel used in this tv is a 60hz panel assisted with backlight scanning when you enable led motion plus.

The panel peak reflection is higher then matte screen tvs,but in the non reflected areas the perceived blacks will be darker under ambient light.

@vas007 --- It seems that the main difference is in the dimensions. Probably the D5900 has a thinner bezel
I have also almost finalised D5000. Do u think its worth spending extra for the 5500/5900 just for the Internet access? How much is it going to be used in a TV??

Hi Adder,

Is A series or AMVA panel is good? I tried many times quickly but unable to access Service Menu. There should be another way I guess.

Is 60hz panel is sufficient for our daily TV watching? What does led motion plus do actually?

@cjsarora: As the price difference between D5000 and D5500 is not that much. I would go for D5500.

Anyone got good quote for 40 D5500? Kindly let me know how much least I can bargain???

Well its mostly a AMVA panel its quite good but not the best ,the LED motion plus from what i saw only made the picture look dimmer and HDTVtest.co.uk concurs,they say it even made the picture worse.

Are you trying that in a samsung tv remote or is it some universal remote or samsung dvd/blu ray remote.
I think you may have pressed the wrong buttons,since it works in all samsung lcd/led-lcds.
Which button did you press On/Off or power,since i can't recollect which of the two button i pressed,try with both buttons.

Do we get SPVA panel in India for D5500 or only AMVA panels only?

Regarding LED Motion Plus, so you are saying that it's not good. Ok in this case, is 60hz without LED Motion Plus is good for watching movies, etc without any blur. I mean will I see blur in images?

Yes, it's Samsung remote and tried quickly but all in vain. Any other ideas???

Well i can tell you this, till date i haven't seen a SPVA panel in D5000 or D5500 in bangalore/chennai. None of the owners thus far in this and other indian forums have got a SPVA panel in their D5000/D5500 .

You may still see blur in certain fast moving videos,for that you will need a series 6 samsung or a Sony EX720 which have frame insertion tech.

There is no other practical idea to know the panel other then accessing the service menu.

Hi, I have bought Samsung LED UA46D6000,some 2 months ago and am unsure about the panel type. There is no indication on the rear of the TV as well. What is the likelihood of the panel type, AMVA or SPVA. Pls let me know.

PS. I had PM'd you about a month ago on this issue, but I guess you were busy hence didn't get back to me.

Sorry about that , i do remember seeing your PM,i thought i replied i guess i goofed up since there was lewis hamilton f1 drive in bangalore the following day.

You mentioned in the PM that the rear sticker had a HQ03 which means its a samsung SPVA panel.

I have finalized on 40D5900 LED as it has a good finishing look with the same features as 40D5500 LED .. I see that the outer layer design is very refreshing. Can any one tell me where I can get the best quote in Bangalore as the lowest quote I received is 67K which I think is not the best price.

Please help as I have to buy before Diwali.

backlit model are way too expensive eg the sony hx925
