Hi everyone!
I am bit confused regarding Samsung 43E490 and Panasonic 42XT50D, which one I should go for... My budget is under Rs.50000.
Samsung 43E490 is available at Rs. 42000 @ Ranchi, Jharkhand with 1 yr. warranty and pair of 3d eyewears.
Panasonic 42XT50D is available at Rs. 50000 with 3 yrs. warranty and only one 3d eyewear.
Cost wise it is apparent that Samsung would be worth buy...but on technical aspects, I am bit confused and any sort of technical comparison on these models would be highly appreciated.

go with 490 a great Tv.....I demoed it....for entry level plasma sammy models are better than pannasonic...pricing is also good..
I got a 43k quote in jamshedpur for the same model...

Thanks prosenjit! Id appreciate, if u could elaborate in brief regarding sammy 43E490 3d resolution and internet access capability and last but not the least its speaker...

the speakers were ok.all flat tv speakers are not good enough to enjoy..extra speakers or home thetrs in near future is a must.
I checked really high quality files in 490,and a sammy led(forgot model..58k around),sony ex 650....all side by side...
I did not check 2d to 3d convertibilty option...so cant say...
also did not check anything about internet......but a laptop to tv is much easy...direct internet to tv is worthless unless you have a super hi speed for direct streaming...

one thing I can assure you about the picture quality....really good...

and about technical details I am also a noob...but it looked good than panasonic entry level plasmas....

did you demo and compare.....very important,my and your liking may be different...just in case

For buying a TV, 3D & internet capability (smart features) should be among the least priorities for you as it would hardly consume 5% of your watch...

Ive gone thru the demo of both models but not side by side under one roof..so got confused..
still wat i collected the huge difference is the price factor..sammy costing around 8k lesser.
pros for panny is its
1) 3 year warranty...
2) integrated internet applications
3) better sound output than sammy
cons:
1) one 3d eyewear on offer
2) costly

so far as Picture colour & resolution is concerned, I also prefer sammy...but cant say abt its durability...since I was also a proud owner of one 40 inch Sammy lcd L40C530, till continous flickering started on the screen after 1 & 1/2 yr. and making it a dump item for me...but thanks to SAMSUNG, which agreed to return my bill amount after deducting a certain percentage..
THESE all factors are bothering me...and Im leaning towards panny 3 yrs warranty...but still believe sammy hold an upper hand in picture quality...
any suggestions plz...

It is not as if the speakers of flat panel TVs are bad. They are quite sufficient for standard TV serials. It is when movies kick in that one feels the lack of punch and that is where an HT helps.

As regards to liking for any particular TV, trust your eyes than reviews. One man's medicine could be another man's poison.

Hi..what percentage of your TV did you get back? after some help from fellow forum members, I did get a call from Samsung who offered to refund me some written down value money provided I could give them my bill - unfortunately I could not find the bill and today I disposed off my old tv for 10K

@OP, I owns a 43E490 for the last two months. You did not specified your requirements for the TV. But my general comments are:

1. If you are interested in 3D the 3D is good.
2. It is not a full HD TV. If you are watching general SD stuff like serials etc, this TV is sufficient. Even then this TV lacks a "just" mode so that normal 4:3 stuff can be watched without distortion. If you watch good amount of FHD stuff, then go for a FHD TV.
3. This TV is like a mirror. If there is even a slight chance for reflections, do not buy it.
4. The sound quality is bad. You will definitely need at least a 2.1 system from the day one.
5. The TV comes with a 15A socket. But the power consumption is in 100-200W range. So you need an adapter if 15A socket is not available.
6. Only two HDMI sockets, one usb and a component in. No VGA or DVI sockets.
7. Despite all these short comings, it is actually pleasant to watch the TV in the ideal conditions.
8. I have not yet used the smart TV features. So unable to comment on this. But IMO buying a TV based on smart features is foolish.

I bought this TV mainly because it has 3D and good pic quality. Other wise I would have bought an LCD in the 40-45K range.

The panasonic has a brighter panel and 3 year warranty. These are a plus point if you look at that way. BTW, I got a 3D BDP as a gift from samsung. Price was 43.5K at Kochi. At that time panny has a bundled home theater offer.

Today, i auditioned these 2 models at reliance digital with available channels.

To my eyes pana one looks better. the contrast is good, colour is good, the text appearing clearer. But samsung one is little sharper. price they mentioned- 42k for samsung, 49k for pana
