Dear Friends ,

I'd been comparing for like 1 Year all LEDs in the Market ,
I've came out with the following List :

1 - Samsung LED [ 40C6200 ] 2010 Model

Eye Observation :
- Very good LED with Nice Black Levels
- I'd tried to play a Movie ( MKV ) from the External HDD i'd but it was a but accelerated !! , i dunt know why !!

Technical Specs :
- 100 Hz
- 4 ms Refresh Rate
- Full HD
- 1:5,000,000 Contrast Ratio

Price : Good

2 - Samsung LED [ 40D6000 ] 2011 Model

Not Yet availiable in the market here but it should be coming in 1 month
- It should have the same Technical specs as above in addition to Apps + 3D TV ,

Price : As it will be just new in Market i expect it will be above Normal

3 - LG 42LE5500

Eye Observation :
- I dunt think it has the same black levels as the Samsung 40C6200
- Response time is 2.4 ms
- I'm not sure if it plays MKV or not
- I think it doesnt support DTS Audio out ?

Price : Same as 40C6200
..

I really need your help , Experience and Support to come out to a conclusion

Also please tell me if i should wait for the 40D6000 , does it worth it ?

Thanks a million

I have seen demo of 40c6200 & LE5500 models at Croma. My impressions were 40C6200 has the better picture quality than LG, and skin tones are more natural. You could try demo yourself and then decide. Formats wise, both are almost same.

Yes i agree...but do you have a solid comparison ?

If it is based on specs alone, LG would score for sure. But, I guess a demo should always be a better option, as sometimes specs can be bloated.

In my case, I initially booked LG 5300. On the day of delivery, I had a look at C5000 (which earlier I ignored due to higher pricing). I liked colors on samsung and picture was smoother. My demo on both TVs lasted for almost 20 mins, before I changed my order.

Though Sony was good, I did not consider mainly due to 2 reasons:
1. USB support was limited
2. color tones on sony LED were similar(ofcoursegood) to my sony CRT. Though I liked both sony & samsung, Samsung's picture was different from what I have seen in last few years, so I selected it.

I have recently bought an LG LE 5300.42 inches
It's awesome,look no further.refresh rate-2ms,contrast ratio 1:3l

Really , I mean the LE5500 would be better in this case with 1:5,000,000 Contrast and 2.4 ms refresh rate ?

I hear the BLACK isnt that good on the LE5300 and LE5500 is it true ?

Thanks

Does that Means Samsung Contrast is better ?
Or LG ?

and what about this Response time 2.4 ms versus (Sammy 4ms ) , Will it make a difference ?

Thanks

Those response times are with overdrive applied, you won't be able to notice the difference.

Yes samsung has a higher contrast.

@wookie,

My take on TVs is as follows:

- I will set my budget first; a figure that is my absolute maximum that I may spend
- After that I will give 90% priority to picture quality, 8% to audio quality.

The rest are all secondary. For instance:
  • I won't care if the TV does not play a particular format directly via USB.
  • I won't care if USB playback is limited to, say 4GB, FAT only, etc.
  • I won't care whether it has network connectivity, skype enabled, browser enabled, etc.
  • I won't care how gorgeous its remote is or how user friendly it is
All of the above limitations (if at all) can be addressed by external devices (media players, blu-ray/dvd players, laptop, etc.).

The TV's main purpose is to display video and should have decent audio. I would like the TV to display natural colours. The video images should be crisp with high black levels, extremely good contrast, etc. The sound should not distort at high volumes.

The other day I was in a showroom and a TV was displaying IPL in HD. Laxmipati Balaji's skin tones were appearing as if he was a clear case of advertising for some of these fairness creams.

Once I am satisified with the PQ/AQ, I will pay attention to other matters such as side connectivity, file formats supported, form factor, etc.

wookie, I suggest that you should also make your own priorities. My sincere suggestion is do not fall for features that are of now use to you.

Excellent Summary , Thanks Just4Kix ,
Can you please tell me which of them has the best Picture Quality then ?

Not having demo'ed the two pieces side by side, it is difficult for me to say. I would expect the Samsung D model (2010) to be better than the C model (2009), if at all. But as it is not in market as yet, who can say.

The LG model, you said yourself that it did not meet the black level of Samsung C. But try the test at couple of more places also.

This is true. I compared the models LG5300, samsung C5000 & Sony Ex710 side by side. Blacks are best on samsung, they are greyer on sony, and browner on LG. But, panelwise (i.e. viewing angle) these models are in the opposite order.
LG's IPS panel definitely has the best viewing angles by a good margin.

Also, I compared 5300, 5500 side by side in LG best Shop, and found 5500 had better blacks with same input. I asked the expert there about whether it was due to settings, and if we could adjust something to make them browns appear more black like 5500(I was more interested in 5300 at that time). He said that they cannot be matched due to limitations on specs.

With regards to C vs D of samsung, in other forum, I read that D is better in terms of HD PQ, whereas C is better for SD & build quality (supposedly due to cost cutting in newer models)

I would say that while viewing angle is an important factor but it should not be in the top 5 params. I say this because how many times would you be watching TV at 150~160 angle? But it must be compared and considered for normal viewing angles, say 60 to 120 (maybe 10 more).

Why not 40D5500, which has the SMART features as well?
I am satisfied with C5000, but D5000 is a newer model and it has also better sound (Woofer). If needed, I can give any feedback/info for any specific questions on 40C5000.

AMP has different settings. Try clear and with BR everything should be left off unless you feel any judder. The problem with Samsung is that no one setting works well different sources.

Play around with AMP and the 6 series is ahead of the 5.
