Samsung not recommending buying from FLIPKART

Maybe this is the beginning of the war between online and brick and mortar. It seems nowadays people have forgotten how the big chains when the entered in the fray had severe criticism from the old single shop retailers.

I for one tend to side with the point of view that warranty is given for the manufacturing process. The excise duty has to be paid before the product can be taken out of the factory. After being taken out whatever be the destination of the product including gray channels also warranty should be applicable. Alas it is not so here but as long as the product is being manufactured in the country warranty should be given to all products in the country of their manufacture.

Last December I bought a Lenova laptop with Lenova India warranty. The price was 6K cheaper than the market price. In June '14, there was minor problem and Lenova did a on site service under warranty.

During this I found that the date of purchase as per Lenova was July 13 and the warranty was expiring in July '14. On contacting the over phone, I was asked to email a copy of the invoice and with in 1 day the warranty was extended to Dec '14

I had bought Samsung 40H5500 from Flipkart during Big Billion day and I was worried when I read stories about manufacturers not honoring warranty. After the TV was delivered, I was able to register the TV in the Samsung website and immediately after that you can view the warranty period. I was went for 3 years extended warranty for Rs. 5,808/-

The only drawback that I found was TV installation takes at least 2-3 days if you buy it online--the service engineer himself told me they delay installation wantedly

From what I know from a colleague who worked for another flat screen TV brand, this is a manual process. Sellers send an excel sheet via mail to the manufacturer, somebody collates this into a big excel which is then divided regionally, and the regional excels are sent out, from where the appointments are booked.

If technicians are scarce, they would prioritize their own and Brick and mortar outlets over online sellers :)

One of my friend is about to buy Philips LED TV from Flipkart with in this week(Mobile app shopping week).. Flipkat had listed that they provide 3 yrs warranty for some models...

I called up Philips India Customer care toll free # to check if they honour warranty for TV's purchased from Flipkart.... Yes. They confirmed that they honour warranty for goods purchased from Flipkart...:ohyeah:
