My D550 died on the 11th month and got the E550 as replacement. I have now used it for 2 weeks. I use Airtel HD and Samsung 6700 Series BDP (US model) for content.
As an ex-owner of D550, I did not find much improvement in the E550, not withstanding the Real Black Filter. TelevisionInfo, however, has better ratings and reviews on the blacks and performance compared to D550. May be not perceivable to my eyes.
Remote is slimmer and thinner. Main addition is the button for Smart Hub. Old remote works well with E550. Remote response is a bit slower, I think.
The "On TV" controls are a little better than D550. The on-off button is a real multi function button under the screen than on the bezel. Even if the remote is not there, I can at least change the source and do other changes.
SmartHub is interesting and a definite plus compared to D550. It has 800MB space and it already occupied ~200 MB. Tried CrorePati and some other applications. Explore3D has some trailers and kiddy stuff. Thanks to the broadband connection, I did NOT venture into opening any of the trailers. It is far better than the SmartHub in the high end Samsung BD player I bought from US.
I thought sound was better than D550. Since the specs look the same, could be a perception.
Wifi is built in and is a huge Plus. Looks like it support WiFiDirect as well (didnt try). Havent tried the USB or BT keyboard.
Has Skype support. However, need a decent internet connection and skype camera (Rs. 6000 as per site).
Sugarsync Cloud storage option is good ; if we have a decent unlimited internet connection.
Tried native 3D and 2D to 3D conversion Found it to be similar to D550. Played from BD and from rip (Side By Side). Got 2 pairs of 3D glasses. New glass is light. The earlier glasses also worked with E550. I preferred the earlier version since the new ones were not stable on my nose (the moment you tilt your face, it was moving). Further, sides are completely open and the chances for light/reflection to enter through the sides were more. Didnt observe any cross talks with either set of glasses. I can now start a theater - thanks to 6 glasses!
Same is the case with AllShare and Samsung Android Remote App. Nothing new and not much difference in the remote or in streaming.
USB playback: USBs are on the side (as earlier) and convenient to access. Tried some formats. It played most of them (didnt play few WMV and FLV files)
Supposed to have ARC. Havent tried yet.
2 Major negatives for me :
1. Has 1 less HDMI (that too in the back). Since DTH and BDP has HDMI, I now cannot connect both using the HDMI ports in the back like I used to. Since I have cabled using the duct, it would have looked odd to have one HDMI connected to the side and I have now gone down to Component for BDP (creates problem for some 3D Blurays and I have to switch the HDMI from DTH).
2. It also lost the VGA port. While my laptops has HDMI ports, I will now have to invest in a new graphics card or a DVI adapter for my desktop. If you are a laptop user and do not have a HDMI port, beware.
