ok..finally getting sold on the idea of a HTPC I am looking out whether it makes sense to build one vs. buying...here are my requirements:

will be only playing movie/tv shows, don't need an optical drive/blu-ray drive..want a good interface thus basic media players are out..don't even want a HDD inside, will play files from a NAS..and will run openelec from a thumb drive...small size is of extreme importance, the device depth cannot be more than 7 inches..no restriction on width, height shouldn't be more that 5-6 inches..

have been considering the zotac zbox with E-350 and HD6310..spoke to a dealer, the total price with RAM is coming to about 15k..14k for the zbox and rest for the RAM..

Can I build an HTPC for rest which will be equally small? the HTPC threads i read in the forums have cases which are all bigger in depth than 7 inches..given my requirements (no hdd, no optical drive, integrated gpu/apu) can you guys suggest a case where i can build the pc for less than 15k?

thanks in advance...

With a depth restriction of 7 inches and a height restriction of 6 inches, I think you might have to buy something like a Zotac ZBox.

The smallest good quality cabinet IMHO is the Antek ISK-310-150. It runs to about 4.6K. It will take only Mini-ITX boards.

Cabinet + PSU (as above) : 4.6K
Mobo: Gigabyte E350nUSB3 : 7K odd
Ram: 0.6K (GSkill)

This comes to under 12.5K (without the HDD). You'll need a 2.5" HDD for the above cabinet. If you don't need storage capacity, I'd suggest a 30GB SSD :p for about 3.2K.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
