Hi All,

Though of starting a thread to showcase the portable music listening rig.

To start with, here are my source of aural pleasure.
The Sansa clip+ which I was using as my source is sent back to Amazon.com for a refund as the player simply stopped starting up. My Samsung Infuse 4g is acting as my portable source for the time being with PowerAmp music player app.

Below is my music on the go setup:

Enjoy!
Thanks!

Eagerly waiting for some pictures of the rigs from the Headphone gurus like eSanthosh, Gurubhai, sachi, anm and many more on this forum.

I really want to take some inspiration from the gurus here to take this hobby of mine to the next level.

I have a setup in office but it is very difficult to use it as every few second someone needs my attention. This is giving me a motivation to work hard and get a cabin for myself :)

I know what you mean.
It happens with me all the time. The moment I put on my headphones at work and start listening to my favorite tune, the very next moment I find someone standing behind me at my desk calling me

All, C'mon, take out your cameras from the closet and click some snaps of your portable gears and post it here. There are many people waiting to see your gears :ohyeah:

Added a new member to my portable rig.
Just ordered a refurbished 30GB iPod Video (5th generation) from Amazon.com.

waiting eagerly for it to deliver so that I can put my hands on it for modding.:licklips:

Nice earphones you have there!
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I wonder how the Nationite player sounds. In fact I wanted to buy one when my Sansa Clip+ died, but due to unavailability of first hand review I passed the idea.

Nationite player's SQ is excellent, infact I purchased this after asking esanthosh and faheem as both of them said that N2 is bit better but clip+ has an advantage of having clip behind it so it has upper hand in terms of portability. Nationite N2 has better headphones driving capability than the clip+ has and that's because of the inbuilt amp inside it. So in the end, it all depends on the particular user.

Thanks & Regards.

This is my portable (well, at least, semi-portable) rig. In the photos you see:

1. JH Audio JHA-13 IEM with custom tip
2. Shure SE-530 (I think) and the low end model of Etymotic Research (don't remember its name)
3. HiFiMan HM-801 DAP and Westone 3 IEM with custom tip
4a. Three piece system consisting of 1. 120GB Ipod Classic 2. AlgoRhythm Solo DAC, and 3. ALO Audio Rx portable headphone amplifier
4b. RSA Emmeline Hornet portable headphone amplifier
5. ALO Amphora Headphone amp/Preamp + iMod (Redwine Audio modded Ipod)

A wide variety of portable stuff!
How does the HiFiMan HM-801 DAP scores over the iMod? And how much improvement in sound is achieved by iModding the iPod video?

My simple setup, not exactly portable though!, unless i get rid of the DAC & dock. I am looking at getting a HRT streamer DAC.
Senheisser 555
Head room headphone amp.
Wadia dock
MF Xdacv3 Dac
Cheers,
Sid

You can find a very good comparison of some DAPs (including the HM-801 and RWA iMod) here. I too, find the HM-801 to be in a different league compared to the iMod. However, the HM-801 has some UI/usability drawbacks such as its larger size, weight, smaller play time between charges, use of SD cards, poor UI, etc. Despite these shortcomings, I find that I seldom use my iMod after I purchased the HM-801.

The iMod is noticeably better than the basic iPod in terms of soundstaging, transparency, bass response, etc. However, it is also significantly more expensive since in addition to paying for the mods, one also has to buy an LOD from ALO Audio that costs roughly $200, and an external amplifier.

I have moved all of my portable music players to the compost heap of history. My first portable was a compact cassette player in a knapsack with a motorcycle battery and giant Koss over the ear headphones. In the late sixties I wore that rig playing tennis while listening to the poetry of Jim Morrison and the Doors.

Today, I leave the music on my home server and stream it to my smart phone. The output can be heard on wired headphones, or sent short distance to any other device via bluetooth. Who needs to carry anything else?
