Hi, I am planning a second trip to singapore and hongkong. Just thinking what should i buy from there this time,as last time i just got memories in form of photos.everytime i would enter a shop of electronic goods i would calculate the price in indian rupees and would find same products in india to be cheap and hence would resist my temptation to splurge, but this time i think would do some purchase, products which are hard to get here,i would like honourable forum members to guide me to good purchases. I am interested in electronic goods such as music first turntables, super zoom cameras to keep lookout for girl next door,;) ipads, gaming consoles,lcd/led tvs right now i can think of this much, any suggestions invited, budget upto 60k stretcheable to 80k.
Thanks.

Hi Hseplak,

During my recent trip to Hong kong, I found the prices of Audio gears to be comparable to India and more if one factors in duty. Of course you get far wider range of Products, readily available.

As far as high end Cameras are concerned, Indian prices are attractive. I am told that India is a source of Cameras to Hong Kong as Grey merchandise there.

Enjoy yourself!

Jayant

If you just want to look out for your girl next door,i would suggest a good 700 TVL CCTV kit.You can keep an eye on her 24/7...LOL just kidding!!

The Panasonic Lumix FZ series and Canon Powershot SX40 HS have been getting good reviews, you can take a look at them.

Hi,
I will be visiting singapore, where to get electronic goods in singapore , i am interested in marantz amps and cd players, what else can one think of?

thanks.

Hi,
Hello any particular market in singapore?is it good to get electronic goods from there?
would it be cheaper there?
thanks.

Go to Adelphi. Hifi is definitely cheaper there compared to India.

Don't forget to take all your savings. Better still if you can get some loan. You will be tempted to splurge. You have been warned.

Electronic goods available in SIM LIM SQUARE.I would advise you, don't buy any electronics items if you are not very familiar with.Electronic items purchasing in Singapore, require heavy skill and heavy knowledge.Remember, they are well trained particularly dealing with tourists. Thanks!

5 Places You should avoid when Shopping in Singapore

I use to get lot of products from Singapore in the 90s but now its of no use since most of them costs more then in India but you get to see wider range there.

I have stopped buying products from HK and Singapore and depend more on Indian market.

Since 2000, I have bought numerous audio/video products from SG (mainly Alpha Audio and other shops in Sim Lim and Adelphi) but at that time when the exchange rate was Rs 25-27/1 SG$. Remember at that time prices in the Indian markets were considerably higher. So it made economic sense to import heavy stuff (such as amps, spks) from SG despite the issue of warranty support and other risks involved in shipping. I also remember in those items Singapore Airlines and others were liberal in allowing extra baggage over 20 kgs without any charges.

But nowadays SG dollar is around Rs45 and prices in the Indian markets have come down. In the present scenario, I may not wish to buy heavy items from SG but if there is a considerable price difference I may buy camera, lenses, Dac, headphones, laptop, projector and other light weight items.

Interestingly, Hong Kong is still attractive as I keep visiting audio shops (even there is no purchase involved) for various reasons, including exchange rate, a bigger market and a diverse range of products.

Marantz/Denon/cambridge audio products are still cheaper in HK than SG.

So much so,thanks for all the warnings but which are good places to be,good markets?????

Alpha Audio in Sim Lim gives better prices and the staff is more courteous than their Adelphi store.

Michael's Audio (Nelson street, Mongkok, HK) has a great range of products and prices are very competitive.

Actually there is no good place or good markets for cheap price(as per your post No:5 - would it be cheaper there?),but SIM LIM SQUARE in Singapore is specific for electronics for wider range(members Jaybe, deba too mentioned in their post). Thanks!

Apart from Sim Lim Square some of best places for electronics.
