Hi everybody,

I've just joined the hifivision group.

I was gifted a Pioneer DEH-6390SD car-stereo by my brother recently. I need to know one aspect not mentioned anywhere in the manual :

Will a 32GB SD card play mp3 songs error-free, even when fully loaded? What will be the start-up delay when fully loaded?

What class of 32GB SD card should I purchase? Class 2, 4, 6 or 10? I will store only mp3 music files and don't want overkill!

Will a normal size card work as well as a Micro SD with an adapter?

I read on a UK forum that a 32GB card takes up to 2 minutes to start, even if you switch sources. Is this true?

If the above is true, which size of card do you suggest that starts within a couple of seconds?

What is the optimum size of USB pendrive that you would suggest, that gives near-instant startup? I use an 8GB presently and it works with just a few seconds delay, even fully loaded.

You will not believe this, but any query sent in to the Pioneer India website is never answered. You have to register, enter your complaint and when you press Submit, the whole thing turns into a fresh blank page. God alone knows why they have the website at all. The local people have no knowledge about anything!

Sorry for the trouble, but I hope you will reply my queries to enable me utilize the unit to its fullest!

Warm regards,

Hi

I have a pioneer avh-3200bt purchased from US and I play with a 16gb sdhc card with divx/avi and mp3 files. It plays flawlessly. Infact the sound clarity is superb when compared to the usb connection. I think I have filled it up with a total of 5gb and it starts playing in seconds. Infact I do not find any diff in ipod usb playback and sd card playback in terms of scanning/reading the files. I read it somewhere in the net that my pioneer should support 32gb cards as well.

To your other question, yes a normal micro sd card with a adaptor also works.
I have a class 10 sdhc card and to my knowledge when the sd card source is selected it does not immediately try to scan the entire card. But infact in my pioneer i have a option to choose what media to play like photo/video/music. And based on that the files get listed automatically.

My suggestion would be to borrow the sd card from one of your friends and try it out before you purchase yourself.

Thanks.

manniraj,

what all formats does it play from usb/sdcard ? I think I have 3250 bt, only use for mp3. Have you tried hooking up to GPS?

Hi Kittu,

As per the manual it only plays divx/avi formats for movies. So I have converted some of the rhymes/movies from online/dvd into these formats for my daughter to make her sit at one place during driving
I have not tried to play using the usb port for movies as I use my ipod for usb and sd card for movies. Also to play movies from ipod you need to get the special av cable sold by pioneer. It does not have gps, its pretty costly for the gps adaptor so instead got the garmin from US and got the satnav maps for 990/- and using it.

Thanks.

I am thinking the same, the gps unit for Pio from mapmyindia costs 20k .... Can you point me to the special AV cable link ? I would like to get one.....

Thank you , is it not available locally. Another Q, do you think we can connect any media player to the HU to play the flacs :licklips: ?

I have not seen the same cable in India locally or on the Indian online sites. I have connected only the ipod for usb and do not have any other media player to check it out. I hope this should work as a usb pen drive as well works with a charm (i tried this option). Sorry I do not have any flacs to confirm the same.

Thanks.

Dear Manniraj,
Thanks for your extensive explanation. I was also told by others that a 16GB card is the best bet. I intend buying one from flipkart.com which give the best prices, and I do not have any friends who have one that I could borrow. Wish me luck!!!
The Pioneer India website is useless - no info at all and no one answers any queries - in fact, the page refreshes itself to blank when you press Submit. Pioneer sells the same model minus the remote control in England and from the Pioneer.eu website, I got info that it supports a 32GB SD card. A single card like that would more than cover all the thousands of American country music songs that I have in .mp3 format, but I was also cautioned by a British forum that it would take up to 2 minutes to start playing! So 32GB is out!
Presently I have a 4GB card filled to the brim and two 8GB pendrives also filled to the brim; all three media begin playing instantly I select them. So, 16GB should work.
Thanks a lot for your explanation. It is nice to know that there are so many good people like yourself out there who are willing to help!
Warm regards,

Hi Clyde

Its my pleasure. And do not worry about the time lag in reading the files. I did not see any lag and in fact it reads almost the same speed as it reads thru my ipod. Do let us know how it goes thru. I think it is the bad time to purchase any hard disk/pen drive/sd card at the moment. You can wait for another quarter or so when the prices comes down and then invest in the same. In the mean time you can go ahead and use the 4gb card that you have and also the pen drives.

Thanks.

Hi Kittu,

Check out the avenuesound.com site. I think they are sourcing the same av cable for the pioneer player and it is coming to 1300. It should be your best bet.

Thanks.

Right now I have an xperica arc no iphone or ipod. That is why looking for a media player type of solution.

Dear Munniraj,
I am returning to the forum after a long time - and replying to your post, I purchased a 32GB Class 10 SD card from flipkart.com. I have loaded it to around 60 percent capacity and it plays flawlessly. No time lag at all in starting.
I still have to check out a lot of raw music and stabilize and standardize the volume of the songs and things and will keep you posted when the card is full. As you predicted, there is no time delay and I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Incedentally, I have another query :
I'd like to know if there is any way I can upgrade the OE stereo in the new Verna Fluidic. The sharpness is good but the bass is non-existent.
I'd like to know if :
I can install an amp and speakers add-on to the existing system (could you suggest something that plays good bass at low volumes) in place of the existing speakers?
Second option : I can bypass the system altogether and install my Pioneer DEH-6590SD head unit (which was a gift from my brother and which I am absolutely addicted to!!!). Right now, this sytem plays through a Blaupunkt GTA270 amp, BGx 402 front, TX369.1 rear speakers and a Blaupunkt subwoofer, (all of 2005 vintage, but sounding great still), in my TATA Indigo.
As I see it, placement of the head unit is a problem - or can I fit component speakers in the front or rear doors, with my GTA 270 amp, discarding my old speakers?
I'd rather not rifle the existing system in the Verna, but could install the Pioneer as a second system - is there such a possibility?
Finally, what is the effect on the warranty?
Please let me know - I get conflicting reports depending on where I go in Mysore.
Thanks in advance.
