Smart Tv Worth Buying!!

1.smart living room show off -- yes
2.if you have 5Mbps net connection--yes

3. If point 1 ,2 not valid and you are smart --No
Dont join the less smart brigade, paying 20K for features that are useless and marketed a dump tv as smart tv

You have no plans to add any media player / htpc then go ahead and buy else not needed....HTPC / Media Player will do that in a better way......although i have Samsung Smart TV but i prefer browsing through my HTPC but incase of Family, my wife prefer Smart TV options ;-) cause that is less technical :-D

Smart TV is a complete waste. What does Smart TV enable you to do?

a) Surf the web: Everyone who aims for a flat panel TV, invariably has a laptop/desktop at home. The PC based brwoser is the right way to surf the net. With a TV, you will invariable need extra peripherals such as KB, a wifi dongle (if wifi is not built in), etc.

b) Skype: Once again, PC is a better option. Here you will need a web cam for TV.

c) YouTube: Duh! Forget it. You need at least a 4 mbps connection (as stated above). And once again, will need a KB for faster navigation to search the content.

d) Social Media: Same as (a)

e) DLNA: This in my opinion is redundant as we can as well play content off USB drives.

f) Smart Apps/Games: My take. Use a smartphone/gaming console instead.

The novelty will wear off with in a month.

Buy the TV because of its basic features and qualities, MTBF (mean time between failures), service level/guarantee, etc. and not because it has better internet features.

+1 to this... the only irony is that all good/high end TVs are coming with 3D these days so doesnt leave much of a choice..

integrating things to tv have never succeeded ...a standalone box i always much more powerful and flexible....
surfing net on tv rarely needed, for that a 3K android stick u can deploy ,dont put 60-80k because tv looks high end.. people go by 'better to have' thinking
what is bettter in that ?

photo browser ,gesture control - show off ,apps ?? mostly useless
3D: hahha where is the content ,1400Rs blurays ?Downloaded 40GB per movie frpom where ,do you have time to download ?
does is give better picture ? : user not sure
do they give better sound bar?:user unaware
is the remote is innovative : i dont think so

so what to buy .. ,dont just go gray market and check price theye will sale for 4k less MRP ,risk takers can get via proper import channels
I get full HD LEDs for 39K odd.. slim , 100Hz etc etc

+1 to kaushik first.

Samsung makes very good internet tvs. In my tv there is an app Sony Entertainment Network which got almost all popular show on sony india network..of them I like the serial love story most cause i used to watch it and now it is not on any channels.
I have a 6mbps bb connection so full hd yt clips gonna look superb but I am too lazy to do that...maybe if some awesome movie is about to release then I will see the trailer in there.
What's the point of a functionality which u won't use and pay a greater price..but all sony's tv greater than 50k have internet app built in..but there is few models from samsung and lg which have no smart app price>50k.

If u are gonna download a full bluray ISO the size will be like 40gb or even more...but it is not recommended to download such large file as it will fill up your hdd space...

It varies, the biggest 3d file is now of transformers, comes around 30gb, you can get 3d movies starting from 6gb.

Am talking about 3. Btw people here should have access to private torrent sites, then they will understand how much of 3d contents and the size of them.

Most of the current crop of LED and LCD TVs are internet enabled, especially the range of Smart TVs. I prefer LG as the LM series Smart TVs provide a good deal of connectivity options unlike the limited range of other brands - built in Wi-Fi, 3 USB and 4 HDMI ports, wired LAN capability and the most modern feature - Intel enabled Wi-Fi, which will help in connecting our TV to your Wi-Fi equipped laptop.
Almost all higher end brand TV's offer the same features as the LG LM series. The only difference may be some may be wi-fi enabled (dongle required) or wi-fi built in.

3 USB ports, 4 HDMI ports, etc. are nice to have but not really required; one or two USB ports suffice and most people will never connect more than 2 HDMI devices. But I agree that if there are additional ports at the same price, then that model is worth considering. Internet, wired LAN, DLNA, etc. are standard in all Smart TVs.

However, the TV must be principally judged by its PQ and the basic features associated with PQ. All other factors are secondary and much less important. Even USB playback limitations can be overcome by a dedicated media player which will also give better UI.

Not saying LG is bad but I would like to understand what brands/models you are comparing.

Very aptly put. Very easy to make up your mind. Wish we had such clear guidelines on purchase of other stuff also.

There are so many things to look for when you are deciding between the two brand of a smart TV. I personally feel LG stands ahead of samsung in display market.

Have u checked transformer2,3...they are about 43-45 gb...

Lijo,
man we are taking about full BDRs so some latest ones , as lake said they even cross 44GB
most working people really in a big problem as there is no 3d content that can be procured ,dowloading also not feasible for many!
