Smart Tv Worth Buying!!

Most of the current crop of LED and LCD TVs are internet enabled, especially the range of Smart TVs. I prefer LG as the LM series Smart TVs provide a good deal of connectivity options unlike the limited range of other brands - built in Wi-Fi, 3 USB and 4 HDMI ports, wired LAN capability and the most modern feature - Intel enabled Wi-Fi, which will help in connecting our TV to your Wi-Fi equipped laptop.

with due respect you should never pay extra for so called dumb tvs marked as smart

i have a LED tv with wifi n net ,i impoted at an awesome price but the features are rarely used in india .

1 USB and 4 HDMI ports, preferably slim (!1.2inch)LED tv is well enough for in <50k range with warranty <40k for gray

wifi streaming from laptop etc no one uses, if needed i recommend a decent media player provides all with lott other features .

Also not sure what "category" of folks do the guys asking for advice and guys giving advice belong to. I am assuming someone who has not bought a flat panel so far and is planning to buy a 40 inch or less is not really a videophile.

If you are not a videophile then it is not fair to compare Blu ray quality picture with other kinds of videos. The difference between a blu ray rip at a lower bit rate compared to one at a higher bit rate is like comparing 92% with a 99%. Not everyone wants to have 99% accurate pictures. There are decent BD rips available from 2GB onwards and if you have a big TV and you sit 8 feet + the difference comes down even further between perfect full bit rate blu ray videos vs lower quality ones

I have a 35GB FUP from BSNL and I would rather download 10 movies at 4 GB each rather than one big movie at 35GB just because I want perfect 1080p videos. Again its a personal preference.

Over the past week I have downloaded some 15 3d movies based on user opinions in avsforums.com. Tomorrow I will get my glasses and I will update with my opinions.

DOWNLOADING MOVIES IS ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL. but then we in India do not have too many options of buying 3d blu rays...I guess we can make an exception:yahoo:

I never download movies. Period. I used to back in 2007-2008. Downloaded DViX for about 25 odd movies (700 mb). But since then purchased legal copies of most of them.

I don't know what you are paying for your 35GB FUP plan. I guess it is something like Rs. 2000 with tax. I have BSNL ULD750 plan and end up paying Rs. 842.00 incl of tax. When I buy Blu-Ray, I am paying Rs. 750 on an average. So I can potentially buy 2 BD's per month in this differential cost. That is 24 BD's per year! Why download something inferior when you get something 6 times better at no extra cost?

But, we are delving away from the "Smart TV" debate.:p

I am on the 1350 plan..incl tax I get a bill of around 1600 - so I guess compared to you I will get one 750 rupee BD :) I only downloaded 3d movies since I didnt see too may retailers selling 3d blu rays.

I need 4mbps speed since I cant stand buffering when I am watching online videos

Regarding smart TVs - I definitely agree that its useless for the most part. Like when I look at the options on my XT50 - I didnt like any apps and I didnt even bother to find the browser. There aren't too many options either. If one wants to browse or do anything on the internet - just do it on their laptops - its easier and faster.

Lijo,
man we are taking about full BDRs so some latest ones , as lake said they even cross 44GB
most working people really in a big problem as there is no 3d content that can be procured ,dowloading also not feasible for many!

Me too man. Full bdr of transformers 3 is just 30 gb

I haven't tried it. My broadband speed is 1 mbps till 6 GB and then 512 kbps. No way HD will stream properly - forget about 3D for me.

Every smart Tv has different USP that gives it an edge over the other. Some people are brand followers and they will only get the brand they prefer without looking at its pros and cons.
There are few things that needs to be considered when you are going for a smart Tv. First thing the inbuilt Apps coming with it, Easy remote to handle and easy access to internet.

I personally feel LG is the brand that comes up with all these features and also the remote provided with it is easy to handle as well.
edge over the others at how much rip off?
A very well made LED40 incher is 50k max show room.
may be people stop wasting 37k extra on marketing only features for DUMB(smart in what sense?) for things like this TV LG 42LW5700 | Television | Flipkart.com

only do it for show off if must!

In panasonic models they have an app called world tv which has 3d. Tried registering and you have to give credit card info even though panasonic gives some kind of code. Much more easier to download 1GB rips of 3D movies then go through this frustrating experience - play at your own time and pace

Connecting something like a PC,AppleTV,Roku, etc to your set makes it much, much smarter than what most of these companies have included. If I had the option of saving some money by excluding their "Smart" software, I would have taken it and put the money into one of the above mentioned products.

Give me a TV that is dumb but great on picture and (maybe) sound quality. The only Smart feature I liked and find useful so far is DLNA.

The topic seems quite interesting and I must say good discussion is going on for smart TVs. I am not into that much knowledge about smart TVs, knows a bit of 3d tvs.
Hope i enhance my TV knowledge here in this forum.

I am seeing a great tilt towards the smart TV apps in recent times and we can hope few more apps coming up in smart TVs in coming days.

Well, i think they is way too much difference in what you get inbuilt from a reputed brand and what you get from outside and attach to it..
