Sony announces the death of blu ray

Sony said: “As of February 2025, we will discontinue production of all Blu-ray Disc media, recording MiniDiscs, MD data for recording, and MiniDV cassettes. There is no successor model.

We are seeing the end of an era.

Does anyone know what distribution system will replace blu ray if one wants to own a high def version of the movie?

It's only recordable Bluray among other recordable media that they are sunsetting. Pressed Bluray will continue to be available.
