After 2 months of search and reviews from forums, I bought Sony LCD KLV-40EX400. The package is delivered home today Friday and yet to be opened and installed (wall-mount) by Sony guys tomorrow (expecting :)).

I bought it for 60K from Abirami. From the pack, I found the following:

-- The import date is current month (Aug 2010).
-- It is manufactured in Malaysia.
-- There is a warranty card attached with the package which said 1 year but valid upto 20Nov2011. Does it mean whether the warraty is 1 year from date of purchase (ie. today) or upto 20Nov2011?
-- There is a free installation card which may be used by sony guys once they arrive to install it.

Factors to decide this one:

* Before I bought Sony, I shortlisted Samsung 40C530 with this one. After I read about 40C530 panel type (C panel), and also inconsistency in panel type it has (may be S-PVA in some), I decided to select 40EX400 as it has S-PVA panel without doubt.
* The advantage of USB of Samsung which supports many formats is not a matter to me as I am planning for WD Media player
* I am also in plan of buying Sony BDP S370 but I am thinking how much it is helpful (if I am getting WD Media player) other than playing BD. The final price I got for this BDp is 9.5K.
* Eventhough the price diffr. is huge between showroom and grey market for Sony, I don't want to invest 40K+ in grey without B&W.
* Last but not least, it is SONY. I have more items of Sony with which I never faced any glitch so far (CyberShot Digi - 5 yrs, Sony Ericsson mobile - 3.5 yrs and VAIO laptop 3 yrs)

Expecting help from you guys:

* Where can i get WD media player and what is the cost in Chennai?
* I am in search of good calibration settings to my 40EX400. Meanwhile if any of you owners already did it, please post me.
* Currently I have only normal cable TV. I am planning to go for DTH HD. Suggest me a good one suitable to this TV. I want more HD channels and better quality even with SD channels (Tata Sky or Airtel?).

Thank you all and especially Adder.

Will post more in coming days....

Done a wall-mount on last sunday. As of now I am watching only cable TV in normal mode (not zoomed or full screen in which PQ is not good).

Planning to buy either WD media or Sony BD S370 this weekend (looking for good offer in BDp). Still don't find time to check good picture settings. Will post once I find it.

Congrats HTphile ... I have narrowed down on the Sony EX400 too - not sure if it will be a 32" or a 40" yet. At the moment, the AVR is awaited.

BTW, have you considered the Dune BD Prime 3.0 network media player? Albeit expensive at 36k, this sums up a BD player and media player into one.

I only hope the prices come down over the months.

cheers,

Thanks Pannags.

36K is too much budget to me for a BD & media player. I may wait for some more months to get some good BD player in a affordable cost.

Currently I bought Seagate Media player yesterday for 5.9K. Actually I went for WD but it is not in the stock. Hence I bought Seagate immediately as my LCD is waiting for a week to get any HD content ;-). More over I already have Seagate free go 500 GB external HDD which is easy to slot in this media player.

I tried m2ts, avi (Avatar) and some mkv. All are playing without any issue. I didn't try any mkv having more than 8 GB. I will try it today (I will post details in a thread under media players separately).

Meanwhile I will try to take some snaps of my 40ex400 with SD (cable tv) and media player (HD) inputs separately.

Hi,
I got myself a SONY 40 EX400 sometime back.
and hooked in my tata sky,
Philips DVd player
Have a basic philips 5.1 Ht but have not hooked in.

The problem now is the TV is wall mounted and i am not able to see where what is to plug in any device.

Can you help me with the connections available at the back of the TV?

How do you rate the segate media player?
How is the segate hard disc.?
does it have shock resistant of some sort.?

Thanks for the help.

Waiting for that photo of your setting

Seagate Media Player is very good. Plays all formats.
Seagate GO portable hard disk is good. Advantage of using it with Seagate's media player is that it has a drive bay where the hard disk can fit in. So looks more compact and aesthetically pleasing.
Shock resistance upto a certain limit is claimed by almost all major manufacturers. Whether it actually works or not is another thing. But it will not get damaged if you put it in your pocket and walk around with it. If you drop it then something will probably go wrong. There is a thread somewhere in this forum about a member whose daughter dropped his external HDD, after which it behaves erratically.
P.S.: If you go for Seagate media player then make sure the one you pick up is the Freeagent Theatre + and not the older HDMI-less Freeagent Theatre.

Thanks for that detailed reply. I am yet to research more on the media players to arrive at a final decision.

Can anyone help me with the picture of the wire input sockets at the back of the SONY 40EX400.
Mine is wall mounted and i am having a touch time trying to figure out where what is and not able to connect my home theatre cable.

Does it have a audio out ?

Hi Visaster,

It might be too late a reply, but I just joined this forum and have been researching 40 EX400 (for a prospective purchase sometime soon), and I landed upon this thread.

40EX400 does have an audio out. It's on the left side of the TV (left when standing in front of the TV), where some other quick connect ports like PC, USB, 1 HDMI ports are also located. It's green colored and is the bottom-most of all ports on the left panel.

Hope this helps! nJoy!
